THE CHILD REMAINS World Premiere News

Posted: June 19, 2017

Very cool news...

Award winning, Cape Breton born filmmaker Michael Melski will see his supernatural thriller THE CHILD REMAINS make it's world premiere at the Shanghai International Film Festival.

The 20th edition of the festival began Saturday, June 17th and will run through June 26th.  As one of Asia's largest and most prestigious film festivals - with more than 2,400 submissions from 114 countries and regions around the world - it's truly fantastic to have a film shot right her in Atlantic Canada be an official selection.

“I’ve had films sell in Asia before, but this will be my first premiere at a major fest there," Melski shared. "It’s a great start for our movie and we’re proud to represent Nova Scotia.”

Melski wrote directed and co-produced THE CHILD REMAINS - that tells the story of an expectant couple who spend a terrifying weekend at a haunted country inn that was once a notorious maternity home.

“I’m a fan of vintage atmospheric horror like THE SHINING and ROSEMARY'S BABY. This film emphasizes story and suspense over shock and gore."

The film stars one of our favourite NL fellas, the one and only Allan Hawco (REPUBLIC OF DOYLEFRONTIER, HYENA ROAD) as Liam, along side Cannes Film Festival Best Actress Winner Suzanne Clément (LAWRENCE ANYWAYS, MOMMY) who plays his pregnant partner Rae.

Nova Scotia born actress Shelley Thompson (TRAILER PARK BOYS) plays the Innkeeper Monica, while thriller vetran actor Géza Kovács (THE DEAD ZONE, SCANNERS) takes on the eerie role of Talbot.  Keep your eyes peeled for plenty more Nova Scotian born talent including Lesley Smith, Martha Irving, Lee J. Campbell, Rena Kossatz, and Glenn Lefchak.

We know what you're thinking - that's outstanding news for all involved in the production, but flights to Japan aren't exactly growing on trees, not to mention the relatively short notice.  As for something a wee bit closer - THE CHILD REMAINS is anticipated to roll into theatres in the Spring of 2018, but we've got our fingers crossed for a few North American film festivals before then and most especially for a screening at the 2017 Atlantic Film Festival which is set for September 14 - 21 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

We'll be sure to keep you posted on all future screenings and we salute THE CHILD REMAINS team as they get set to make their world wide debut - Cheers to the lot of ya!!! SABS

THE CHILD REMAINS is produced by Craig Cameron (THE CORRIDOR) and Michael Melski, with Executive Producers David Miller of A71 Productions (BLACKBIRD) and Marc Savoie, the feature film was produced under the province’s Film and Television Production Incentive Fund available through the NSBI, with assistance from Telefilm Canada.
