SOCAN Song House participants & Tour

The ECMA also announced the list of artists participating in the SOCAN Song House component at East Coast Music Week 2016. Andrew Waite, Blair Lane, Chelsea Amber, Chris Ryan, Corey Hache, Dylan Menzie, Ian Sherwood, Jon Pike, Jordan Musycsyn, Makayla Lynn, Mike McKenna Jr., and Tj King will undertake the two-day interactive and intensive songwriting workshop lead by renowned songwriter, producer, and author of Murphy’s Laws of Songwriting, Ralph Murphy.

RALPH MURPHY - Murphy's Laws of Songwriting

From April 13-14, these 12 Atlantic Canadian artists will have the opportunity to gain valuable insight into the craft of writing a hit song. The initiative aligns with SOCAN’s A&R strategy to help members improve their songwriting and reach new heights in their careers.

In addition to the workshop, the ECMA, in partnership with the Atlantic Presenters Association and with support from the Mermaid Imperial Performing Arts Centre (MIPAC), unveiled the SOCAN Song House Tour. The intention of this new partnership is to develop a ‘block book’ tour that features five of the SOCAN Song House workshop’s participants (one from each Atlantic region).

This tour expands on the SOCAN Song House experience by providing a touring opportunity for five of the artists where they will re-connect and create a performance that focuses on collaborative creation as well as individual songwriting, and feature the new work developed during the SOCAN Song House workshop. The artists will converge on the Mermaid Imperial Performing Arts Centre in Windsor, NS for a two-day residency to re-connect, explore individual songs and create collaborations. Immediately following the two-day residency, the tour will launch at MIPAC. For audiences the performance will provide a look inside the songwriting process and the chance to see unique collaborations from some of the region’s best up-and-coming talent. The tour will also give the Atlantic Canadian audiences and artists the perfect opportunity to sit down and get to know each other.

2016 ECMA NOMINATIONS listWe are very excited to announce this year's SOCAN Song House participants. It is the ECMA's mission to develop, advance and celebrate East Coast Canadian music, and the Song House really exemplifies these goals," says Andy McLean, ECMA Executive Director. "The SOCAN Song House Tour is a fantastic addition to the participants' overall experience, and we look forward to working with the Atlantic Presenters Association on this new initiative. The collaborative nature of the tour will result in some truly memorable shows."
