Kaitlyn Bernard – At Home Here in Nova Scotia

Occupation:  Actress

Place of birth:  Vancouver, BC

Currently resides: I’m so lucky because I get to spend time on both of Canada’s beautiful coasts … Vancouver, BC and Halifax, NS, where my extended family lives

Where’s your favourite place in Nova Scotia to grab something sweet?

One of my favourite places to grab something sweet has to be the Halifax Seaport Farmers Market. I love buying the incredible cupcakes at Susie’s Shortbreads, and the crepes at the market are also super delicious.

Where’s your favourite place in Nova Scotia to grab a bite to eat?

One of the best places has to be Pete’s Frootique. I love grabbing a smoothie/juice from there when I’m on the go, or eating one of their yummy salads that you can create yourself.

Sugar Bubbles Bath Shop Mahone BayWhere’s your favourite place to shop in Nova Scotia?

I love shopping on Spring Garden Road. There are so many beautiful shops there! I also love shopping around Mahone Bay – so many little gems, from the gorgeous art store to my personal favourite: Sugar Bubbles Bath Bakery... the store that makes soaps that look like dessert!

Where in Nova Scotia would we stand to see your favourite view?

Like many, I love Peggy’s Cove but one of my other favourite views is Summerville Beach, near Liverpool. It reminds me of Hawaii, which is another favourite place of mine!

Name 3 things we’ve gotta do when we visit Nova Scotia:

1. I definitely would suggest visiting Nova Scotia’s beautiful South Shore (Peggy’s Cove, shopping in Mahone Bay, walking around Chester, visiting the Bluenose in Lunenberg and definitely cuddling the bunnies at White Point!)

2. Kejimkujik National Park is another must-visit. I was very fortunate to have an opportunity to visit this park with my family a few years ago. My Dad and I portaged to our campsite and even though it was a lot of hard work, it was an incredible experience and I would do it again in a second

3. I also love walking around on the Halifax waterfront, especially during the summer when it’s bustling with live music, entertainers, and ships

What makes Nova Scotia such a special place on earth for you?

In Nova Scotia, everyone is so welcoming and friendly and you feel at home wherever you go. The scenery is breathtaking and the seafood is incredible! My personal favourite are the Digby scallops!
