Cameras Roll on THE HEALER

Posted: June 8, 2015

We've said it before we'll say it again - it's wonderful to have THE HEALER filming in Nova Scotia.  For so many reasons really.  We love that it's a romantic comedy with a stellar cast, we love the charitable side of this production, and - perhaps most of all - we love that it continues a cinematic tradition of showcasing this beautiful corner of the world we call home.

THE HEALER Happenings Blog #1 By Enrique Posner, ProducerOf course - and it needs to be noted - THE HEALER has been so generous in sharing exclusively a behind the scenes glimpse into the making of this movie with their blog THE HEALER Happenings, so it's fair to say we're over the moon and CAN'T WAIT to see the finished film!

They're filming as we post - for now in Lunenburg, following which they'll move to locations along the Aspotogan and in Halifax before wrapping on July 10, 2015.  We'll keep you up to date as the production continues - for now here's the official release from the THE HEALER team regarding principal photography. A Sweet Release...

PRINCIPAL CAST for THE HEALERThe film, a feel-good romantic comedy with a dash of magic, is set mostly in Nova Scotia.

“I immediately fell in love with the look and the feel of Nova Scotia, a perfect place for a magical, mystical tale,” says Paco Arango, whose previous film, MAKTUB, earned him a Goya nomination in Spain for best new director.

THE HEALER, written by Arango, is a story about Alec (Jackson-Cohen), a man who discovers he possesses the gift for healing people, which manifests itself when he arrives in the small town of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. His life turns upside down as he struggles to comprehend his new reality. The arrival of a teenage girl with terminal cancer, wise beyond her years, provides Alec with one last chance to consider his life’s purpose.

The film also stars young actress Kaitlyn Bernard (June in January, Mom’s Day Away).

THE HEALER is a co-production with Enrique Posner, whose previous credits include High Heels; Tie Me Up, Tie Me Down; Uncovered; Metroland; and the Academy Award-nominated short The Lady and the Reaper, and Michael Volpe of Halifax’s Topsail Productions

HIGH HEELS; TIE ME UP TIE ME DOWN; UNCOVERED; METROLAND, and the Academy Award-nominated short LADY AND THE REAPER.  with Michael Volpe of Halifax’s Topsail Entertainment (Mr. D; Trailer Park Boys; MOVING DAY).

The film’s cinematographer, Javier Aguirresarobe, has collaborated with Woody Allen (VICKY CRISTINA BARCELONA and BLUE JASMINE) and Milos Forman (GOYA'S GHOSTS), among others, and was the director of photography on all three TWILIGHT films and POLTERGEIST, now in theatres.

“We have an amazing team on this production, and we are thrilled to be up and running after a challenging start to 2015 for the Nova Scotia film industry,” says Volpe. “We hope to continue working with the provincial government to develop and enhance a system which will allow us to continue working with top-caliber filmmakers like Paco, Enrique and Javier on tremendous projects like THE HEALER.”
