The Pellerin Post – Way Out West With “Floyd Collins”

Posted: April 10, 2014

If you're anything like me you're emotions are all over the map.  You're thrilled because after Friday's big announcement from CBC - you know REPUBLIC OF DOYLE will indeed be back for a 6th season. BUT you're still rocked by the dramatic conclusion of the season 5 finale (watch now at

Krystin Pellerin with Allan Hawco REPUBLIC OF DOYLEI mean will Leslie live to love Jake? Will Jake be jailed and unable to love Leslie even if she does live??? I mean come on!!!!!

Now, if you've watched my most recent interview with Allan Hawco - you know that they've already mapped out the resolution to all of it - and I for one have got my money on a happy ending (and truth be told - a few candles burning in churches throughout the East Coast just to be on the safe side)

At any rate - we're thrilled that the gang will be back.  Happy too that series star Krystin Pellerin has sent us another installment of The Pellerin Post.

In SABStv's Production Report we told you the Mount Pearl, NL native had headed way west to Vancouver for a role in Patrick Street Productions musical "Floyd Collins".  And while we know from previous editions of The Post Pellerin Ms.P is no stranger to the theatre - we did, however, wonder how it was that she found herself on the opposite side of the country.  We asked her how that casting came to be, along with how the Pacific coast is treating our Atlantic Canadian girl.  As always Krystin has graciously shared and written to us about that and more in this edition - ENJOY! Way Out West With Floyd Collins

Written: April 4, 2014

Floyd Collins came out of no where for me,  it was completely unexpected. I didn’t know of the show until Jonathan Monro asked me to audition and luckily the director Peter Jorgensen and Jonathan saw something they wanted there in the role of Nellie and asked me to be a part of it.

It has turned out to be one of the most memorable and artistically fulfilling experiences.

The first week of rehearsal, the composer  Adam Guettel (Tony award winning composer of "Light in the Piazza") came to work with us one and one as a cast.  To get the chance to work with the composer like that is a once in a lifetime opportunity and we were all very aware of that as it was happening.

York Theatre VancouverPeter Jorgensen, Jonathan Monro and the whole cast, crew and orchestra are amazing people and I am so inspired by them and really happy to be in their company.

We get to work on this stunning musical that has so much depth and humanity, and sing this incredibly beautiful music and be challenged and moved and connect and share the story with an audience in a really lovely space.

The York Theatre is one of the nicest theatres to work in.

It feels really good to be singing every day. I love playing Nellie and working in Vancouver has been great.  It's totally beautiful and rejuvenating here.

  1. Can I steal a time machine, and go back to when this theatre production was in Barrie, ON?
