Rick O’Brien – No Place Like Home in Newfoundland & Labrador

Occupation: Photographer

Place of Birth: Toronto, ON; pregnancy complications; but at 3 months of age swiftly returned home to St. John’s, NL to be raised by my huge and loving Newfoundland family; hope I still qualify as a Newfoundlander! 😉

Currently Resides: Toronto, ON

Where’s your favourite place in Newfoundland & Labrador to grab a coffee?

My Nan’s house for a cup of tea.

Where’s your favourite place in Newfoundland & Labrador to grab a pint?

The Duke followed closely by the Ship Inn...

Where’s your favourite place to shop in Newfoundland & Labrador?

Home on Water Street (Pete & Don are the best!)

What's the one meal you miss the most when you're away?

Nudding better than a good Jiggs Dinner; or if I wants a bit of grease Leo’s Fish & Chips!

Where in Newfoundland & Labrador would we stand to see your favourite view?

‘The Rooms’ has an amazing view; in a space where New meets old

Name 3 things we’ve gotta do when we visit Newfoundland & Labrador:

1. FISH AND CHIPS with the works (gravy, peas, dressing… my dear!)

2. Walk the stretch of Water St during the day & George Street at Night

3. Cape Spear, nothing can makes you feel smaller but more connected than standing on the windy blunt of Canada’s most eastern shore!

What makes Newfoundland & Labrador such a special place on earth for you?

The people; their resilience, openness, generosity, and kindness, truly there are no others like Newfoundlander’s; that’s why everyone calls it ‘Home.’
