Shannon Newton – At Home Here in Nova Scotia

Where’s your favourite place in Nova Scotia to grab a coffee?

I did enjoy Second Cup on Spring Garden Road, but was saddened to see it bought out by another coffee shop. Guess I'll go with the Second Cup on Quinpool Road.

Where’s your favourite place in Nova Scotia to pick up something sweet?

I really do enjoy cheesecake from Sweet Hereafter on Quinpool Road. It's such a cute little spot and so worth it!  I recommend the Coffee Crisp Cheesecake. Yum!

Where’s your favourite place to shop in Nova Scotia?

Halifax Seaport Market. Love the fresh apples sold for $6 a bag. They are delicious! The chocolate cheesecake cookies from one if the stands are a hidden gem, they are by far the best cookies in existence.

Where in Nova Scotia would we stand to see your favourite view?

Standing on in the middle of Grand Parade Square, looking up at Citadel Hill, Five Fishermen to the left and Metro Centre to the right. That screams Halifax to me because I used to work around that area years ago and took lunch breaks in the Square.

Name 3 things we’ve gotta do when we visit Nova Scotia:

1. If you're up for walking and lunch, walk along the Halifax waterfront and grab fish n chips at Stayner's Wharf Pub and Grill.

2. Check out a movie at the Oxford Theatre. There aren't many theatres like this one around anymore. The balcony seating and old vintage look is adorable.

3. Hop on a boat and spend an afternoon admiring the forts on McNabs Island.

What makes Nova Scotia a special place?

There's a great sense of community in Nova Scotia. After calling big city Vancouver my home for 6 years, coming back to Halifax was such an easy transition, it felt like I was returning home the moment I arrived.
