2013 St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival

A Sweet Release...

“The Grand Seduction” to open the 24th annual St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival, “Hold Fast” to close

July 31, 2013, St. John’s, NL – After its big premiere at TIFF this September, “The Grand Seduction” comes home. Starring Gordon Pinsent, Brendan Gleeson, Mary Walsh and Taylor Kitsch, co-produced by Barbara Doran, and directed by Don McKellar, the film was shot in Trinity Bight last summer. “The Grand Seduction” is a remake of the Sundance-winning Quebec comedy about a small fishing village’s attempts to woo a visiting doctor, and it’s proving to be one of the season’s biggest Canadian buzz films.

Also generating attention on the national film scene is “Hold Fast,” the screen adaptation of Kevin Major’s classic young adult novel. This incredible film, written and produced by Rosemary House, directed by Justin Simms, and starring Molly Parker, will close this year’s festival.

“The Grand Seduction” is presented in part by Telefilm Canada and the Canada Media Fund through their Eye On Canada program. For the second year in a row, the St. John's International Women's Film Festival is honoured to be one of just two Canadian film festivals selected to participate in this program, which aims to bring major Canadian films and filmmakers to wider audiences.

Stay tuned for announcements about special guests from the cast and crew of both films as our program unfolds.
