FREDERICTON (NB): Fredericton's new winter  now has an official name, FROSTival, and will run four great weekends from January 25 – February 17, organizers announced today.

FROStival, a winter partnership led by Fredericton Tourism, and chaired by Winterfesthiver's John Antworth will include a dynamic month-long schedule of cultural and outdoor festivals as well as a number of sporting events.

"The strategy is to grow a winter destination event by bringing festivals, events and industry partners together to create a buzz of excitement that entices citizens and visitors to sample the fun and flavours of the Capital Region in winter" says John Antworth.

A full schedule of events will be released in mid- January.

Major partners in FROStival include Winterfesthiver, the Shivering Songs Festival, Crabbe Mountain, The Playhouse, Snowarama, and the Killarney Cup pond hockey tournament.

New events will include War of 1812 commemorations, a new film festival, a winter gallery hop, and a new large-scale youth pond hockey tournament.

Combined with existing top draws like the Beaverbrook Art Gallery and Science East, great hotel and restaurant deals, the result is expected to create New Brunswick's newest winter tourism attraction.

"We think Fredericton has the potential to attract winter tourism visitation, but we needed to express our cultural and outdoor assets in a stronger way. FROSTival creates a brand umbrella that allows us to do that," says David Seabrook, head of the City's Fredericton Economic Development, Tourism and Culture office.
