Thom Fitzgerald – At Home Here in Nova Scotia

Occupation: Film and theatre maker

Place of Birth: New Rochelle, NY

Currently Resides: Halifax, NS

Where’s your favourite place in Nova Scotia to grab a coffee?

I like coffee. I like to meet friends at WHET/FRED a lot. But I’m also good at Just Us, Starbucks, Second Cup, Wired Monk, Ristretto… honestly I am a coffee slut.

Where’s your favourite place in Nova Scotia to grab a pint?

The Bus Stop Theatre. A pint at intermission never hurts the second act.

Where’s your favourite place to shop in Nova Scotia?

I really don’t shop. Stuff magically appears in my house on an almost daily basis. My boyfriend says it is the work of elves. He does manage to get me to the Farmer’s Market once a month and that’s always a good time.

Where in Nova Scotia would we stand to see your favourite view?

Lower Prospect. There’s no particular tourist destination or anything, it’s just a community with the lovely craggy rocky coastline I love. It is the view at the beginning CLOUDBURST, and on its poster.

Name 3 things we’ve gotta do when we visit Nova Scotia:

1. Drive to Chester, Mahone Bay and Lunenberg in a day

2. Ride the ferry to Dartmouth and back

3. Crash a kitchen party

What makes Nova Scotia such a special place on earth for you?

It must be the people. We have lovely water and forests but beautiful nature can be found everywhere in the world. Our people have a nice mix of small town warmth and ocean wind bluster, a bit of an edge. I like it.
