Deanne Foley – At Home Here in Newfoundland & Labrador

Occupation: Director/Writer

Place of Birth: St. Johns, NL

Currently Resides: St. Johns, NL

Where’s your favourite place in Newfoundland & Labrador to grab a coffee?

Rocket Bakery but won’t say ‘No’ to a latte from Starbucks.

Where’s your favourite place in Newfoundland & Labrador to grab a pint?

A pint?  The Duck of Duckworth, but I prefer a glass of vino at The Gypsy Tea Room.

Where’s your favourite place to shop in Newfoundland & Labrador?

Downtown.  And anywhere there’s a good sale on…

What’s the one dish you crave when you’re away from Newfoundland?

My mom’s turkey dinner.  It’s the best.

Where in Newfoundland & Labrador would we stand to see your favourite view?

Signal Hill.  I love that I can overlook this grand city or turn towards Cape Spear and stare out into the deep Atlantic blue.

Name 3 things we’ve gotta do when we visit Newfoundland & Labrador:

1. Catch singer/songwriter Ron Hynes, NL’s poet laureate, at the Fat Cat or The Ship Inn.

2. We have some of the best hiking trails in the world along amazing shorelines all around the province.  If you are new to hiking, there is a short jaunt to the lighthouse in Ferryland where you can treat yourself to a gourmet picnic and spectacular scenery.

3. See a play at the LSPU Hall or visit The Rooms, the province’s Archives, Art Gallery and Museum.

What makes Newfoundland & Labrador such a special place on earth for you?

The people, the landscape, the vibe, the conversation, the art, the music, the food and of course, my family. WARNING: if you visit here, you might be compelled to sell your house and stay!
