Kate Corbett – No Place Like Home in Newfoundland & Labrador

Occupation: Actress

Place of Birth: St. John's, Newfoundland

Currently Resides: Toronto, Ontario

Where’s your favourite place in Newfoundland & Labrador to grab a coffee?

I discovered Post Espresso on Water Street when I was home during Christmas…I'll be back.

Where’s your favourite place in Newfoundland & Labrador to grab a pint?

Oh my dear, I'm not fussy! But I'd prefer a glass of whiskey.

Where’s your favourite place to shop in Newfoundland & Labrador?

August and Lotta. I've been finding great outfits at that place since I was in high-school. I get asked all the time where I get my clothes when I am away and I love the look on peoples’ faces when I say Newfoundland. We may be a small island, but we got 'all the style!'

Where in Newfoundland would we stand to see your favourite view?

My Poppy's garden. It's right on the shoreline, overlooking the harbour in Holyrood (where I grew up.) The sunsets are captivating there.

Name 3 things I’ve gotta do when I visit Newfoundland & Labrador:

1. First, get in a cab. Ask for a tour around town. Get to know your driver…they'll be right on.

2. Go to George Street and have the time of your life! And be sure to check out some local music talent while you’re there.

3. Spend some time out around the Bay and visit some small towns. Make sure to go to Brigus and have a blueberry crisp at Country Corner. (I have a deep affection for Brigus…. and blueberry crisps.)

What makes Newfoundland & Labrador such a special place on earth for you?

To put into words why I love my home so much seems impossible for me. I know it's where I get my passion and inspiration to do what I do…. it's a place that has a rawness of authenticity in character and geography that is unlike any other.
