Jerry Stamp – At Home Here in Newfoundland & Labrador

Occupation: Singer, Songwriter, Producer

Place of Birth: St. John's, NL

Currently Resides: St. John's, NL

Where’s your favourite place in NL to grab a coffee?

Not much of a hot drink drinker. Just never got into it. However I do occasionally enjoy a delectable iced tea at Hava Java.

Where’s your favourite place in NL to grab a pint?

My favorite place to grab a beer would be the Bull and Barrel. Unfortunately nothing on tap but lots of beer in bottles. Music videos on the TV’s which aids in conversation, especially when something older pops up you haven't seen in a while. Great staff.

Where’s your favourite place to shop in NL?

Downtown shopping is a must. A real variety of stores and boutiques. From high fashion to food to cheap second hand. Something for everyone. Real original ideas from real artisans working to create something new.

Where in Newfoundland & Labrador would we stand to see your favourite view?

Middle Cove. Right on the ocean in a small valley between two high cliffs. Nothing but water.

Name 3 things we’ve gotta do when we visit Newfoundland & Labrador:

1. Obviously Middle Cove now that I mentioned it.

2. Cape Spear. Most easterly point in North America. Old military bunkers, walking trails, an old lighthouse.

3. Signal Hill/Cabot Tower. Military outpost. Where Marconi sent his first trans-Atlantic signal. Amazing view of the city.

All that being said - those are all places around or near St. John's, but there is so much to see and do all across the province.

What makes Newfoundland & Labrador such a special place on earth for you?

I have always felt that Newfoundland has an interesting blend of old world and new,  North American and European ideas all sort of tossed about. Because everybody seems to be an artist in some way or at least know of one, it is hard to have an ego. You will be called out for it. So it keeps the artists grounded. And I think that shows in the level of artistry found here. Music, Film, Visual Arts, Dance...all the time. Everywhere you go.
