Gemini Nominee KRYSTIN PELLERIN

Date: September 7, 2011

The Gemini Awards recognize and celebrate excellence in Canadian television, so we weren’t at all surprised when one of our favourite NL ladies Krystin Pellerin was nominated.

Krystin Pellerin in Gemini Nominated Episode CBC's Republic of Doyle - Sympathy for the DevilThe category Best Performance by an Actress in a Continuing Leading Dramatic Role and the girl from Mount Pearl received it for her incredible performance on CBC’s Republic of Doyle – specifically for the episode “Sympathy for the Devil”, but if you asked me – they could have submitted any episode and she’d be among those honoured tonight.

That’s right the Gemini Awards go tonight!

When I ran into Ms. Pellerin last month in St.John’s we talked about a pre-show interview…never dreaming she’d have time the day of the big event – but true to her word – she made it happen.  If there was a Gemini for gracious – she’d be SABS winner hands down.

What follows is our Q & A, as they say, with Gemini nominated actress Krystin Pellerin

SABS First of all Congratulations – a Gemini nomination is huge!  How ya feeling now?

KRYSTIN PELLERIN: Thanks Stephanie! It's an honour to be nominated. It still hasn't really sunk in but I guess it will hit as soon as we arrive on the red carpet tonight.

SABS: Over the course of your career you've had some outstanding roles on stage, in film and on TV - what does it mean to be nominated for the character of Leslie Bennett?

KRYSTIN PELLERIN: I think the nomination is a testament to the quality of the show as a whole, the cast and crew, the writers, the viewers... The acknowledgment belongs to everyone involved and it is a huge affirmation. Leslie Bennett is a character I've been with the longest so far and she's allowed me to discover my own strength as an actor and as a person. Leslie has brought me home in every sense of the word and I'm especially grateful to be nominated for this role.

SABS: It’s the biggest night in Canadian Television – so who are you bringing and what are you wearing?

Krystin Pellerin wearing Greta Constantine dress from last nights TIFF party -The Producers Ball Sept. 6 2011KRYSTIN PELLERIN: I'm bringing my mom with me and I'm wearing a beautiful dress by BCBG Maxazria. I have to give a huge shout out to Greta Constantine. They are amazing Canadian designers and I'll be wearing several of their dresses to the red carpet events at TIFF too. I've totally fallen in love with their work.

SABS:  We’re sure you’ll be carting off the hardware, so can you tell us who you’ll be thanking in your acceptance speech

KRYSTIN PELLERIN: That's so sweet of you to say Stephanie, no matter what happens I have a lot of people to be thankful for. First and foremost Allan Hawco, Perry Chafe, Rob Blackie, John Vatcher and Michael Levine for bringing the show to life, CBC for giving us this opportunity, the incredible cast and crew, everybody at Soulpepper Theatre- they are a second family to me and it's where I've learned what it means to be a real artist. Gayle Abrams my agent who's been with me since the very beginning, my mother and father and my whole family for their unconditional love and support, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada and all the loyal viewers, they are the ones who've made all this possible.

SABS:  Just  1 more question, I know you’re sworn to secrecy– but based on a scale of 1 – 10 with  1 being “fine” and 10 being “off the chart great”... how happy are you with Season 3 of Republic of Doyle?

KRYSTIN PELLERIN:  Definitely a 10! We have huge guest stars appearing in Season 3. Russell Crowe will be in the first episode followed by Shannon Tweed and there will be a list of fantastic people to follow. I think the audience is in store for a real treat with how they've followed up with the finale. It's exciting and totally unpredictable.
