Roots, Rants & Roars – Food, Friendship & Fun

Posted: August 23, 2011

Grand plans off to a wonderful start!   Roots, Rants & Roars could best be described as a celebration...

Cheff Todd PerrinOne of great food, great music and great friendship – set spectacularly in the seaside town of Elliston, NL

When we met with Chef Todd Perrin earlier this month he had his hands full – which isn’t that unusual, except he was sporting a new hat - that of  Culinary Director for an event which has now come to be…in grand and delicious detail.

Jeremy Charles & Rory MacPhersonThis wonderful weekend running September 30-October 2, 2011 will gather great local chefs like Jeremy Charles (Raymond’s) and Rory “Roary” MacPherson (Sheraton Hotel) with some of Todd’s new culinary comrades from across the Country – à la Top Chef Canada

Top Chef Canada guest chefs RRRAnd as you would expect with that crew, there’ll be some friendly and incredibly tasty competition as part of the Friday night’s opening gala where the Chef’s compete for the title of “King of the Cod”.  Then on Saturday they’ll unite forces with the best of NL ingredients.

Brunch will be served on both Saturday and Sunday – and so that the fantastic scenery doesn’t get missed – they’ve even planned an adventure…

Elliston, NL“Imagine a 5km hike around Elliston and Maberly offering stunning vistas from beautiful coastal paths with 5 culinary "pit stops". Keep your eyes and ears open for our wandering Minstrel providing the soundtrack for the stroll of your life!”

And what would a celebration like this be without showcasing some of Newfoundland & Labradors finest talent?! With a line-up that includes The Once, Shanneyganock, Anita Best, Fergus O’Byrne and Jim Payne – sure you’d go for the music alone.

Roots, Rants & RoarsWhen Todd told us his plan to make Roots, Rants & Roars "THE culinary & cultural fall festival in Newfoundland & Labrador - celebrating NL’s ingredients, natural beauty and the talents of our Chefs and artists!”  we should have put money on it.

Yes indeed – an annual event to be proud of! A savoury celebration and definitely one that deserves some serious 'ranting and roaring' over...for years to come!!! SABS

I have been trying for 3 days to get on the open line shows (elections!) to say what a fabulous weekend you organized with Tourism Elliston. The event was well organized, the food superb, the music fabulous and no doubt this is the beginning of a yearly event that won't be missed.
