First of all I should disclose I am a HUGE fan!  I am not alone.

The HeartbrokenWhen I first heard “Seventeen” and then their entire debut project TONIGHT TONIGHT – I was head over heels in love with The Heartbroken.

My affinity for Newfoundland & Labrador’s songstress Damhnait Doyle is well documented here on the site – and yes her lead vocals are unmistakable – but within this band they are….home.

Together with Blake Manning, Peter Fusco and a fella known well ‘round these parts Stuart Cameron musical magic has been made and it all seems so effortless.

All four talented artists and musicians lead separate musical careers and crossed paths professionally over the years, but they were friends and that makes a great foundation for anything - so the comrades and kindred spirits took to the stage and then to the studio.

tonight tonightThe Heartbroken walked through the doors of The Tragically Hip’s famed Bath House Studios and didn’t leave until they finished nine days later with TONIGHT TONIGHT - A project that has garnered rave reviews, an instant fan base and most recently a CCMA nomination for Group of the Year.

The Heartbroken & Stephanie BeaumontAnd let’s be clear they are so COOL, so I was thrilled to catch up with them on their recent tour through Atlantic Canada.  We met up at the Carleton in Halifax,NS - shared a little wine, more than a few inside stories and a lot of laughs.

I love The Heartbroken! sb
