In the Affinity Pool with… Ron Kitchener

Occupation: Artist Manager – Music Business / Entrepreneur *(see SABS note)

Place of Birth: Toronto, ON

Currently Resides: Nashville, TN & Toronto ON

An Affinity for: Shediac River, NB

My favourite Atlantic Province vacation spot is:

Our summer home on Shediac River, New Brunswick

It all started when...
A few years back we were looking for a summer home and I was generally set on being a couple hours north of Toronto.   A lot of my wife’s family live in and near Moncton and we visit a couple times a year.  One visit we discussed looking at places and property on the water and eventually stumbled onto a home that had a windy road, lots of trees and peacefulness, it instantly felt perfect.   The ultimate decision was thinking of the fact it would take less time to get up to the Toronto airport, fly to Moncton and be at the cottage than driving the 4-5 hours on Fridays with the summer Muskoka crowd from Toronto.  As it turns out our family spends the entire summer there and I jockey between there, Toronto and Nashville.

Being there feels like...

A sense of balance for me.  I am pretty much working every minute awake but I can focus and balance my priorities between time spent in Nashville, Toronto or Shediac.  Also having lots of family around makes it great for my wife and the kids.

The best view from where I stand is...

Off our back deck that overlooks the water.  There is always something grabbing my attention out there even when you can hear a pin drop.

Next time you’re in the Atlantic Provinces do these 3 things:

1. A visit to the sand dunes in Bouctouche, NB is good for a stroll on the boardwalk and the eco-centre provides some great information about the dune and its eco-system.

2. Paturel’s Restaurant in Shediac, NB for the comfort and the lobster of course.

3. We are close to Cavendish Beach Summer Country Festival in PEI.  Last year was their first and they did a great job.  This year a bunch of label and management clients will be there; Taylor Swift, The Road Hammers, Jack Ingram, Dean Brody and Tara Oram. July 8-11

*SABS note: and talk about your ‘entrepreneur’ - Ron does it big time including RGK Entertainment Group Inc which encompasses the main business an artist management company (Doc Walker, Corb Lund, Emily West, Dean Brody, etc) and a recording label Open Road Recordings (Johnny Reid, Doc Walker, Tara Oram, Ridley Bent, The Higgins, Emerson Drive, Dean Brody among others and the Canadian home for Taylor Swift, Reba, Jewel etc).  Other businesses are DART (Tour & Event Producing), RGK One Shot Productions (TV/Film), Road Angel Entertainment (Marketing Services) and Roots 3 Music (Music Publishing).
