Workshirt Opera is proud to announce the Atlantic Canadian premiere of Michel Marc Bouchard’s *award-winning play Tom at the Farm, starring Stewart Legere (Merritt Award winner), Shelley Thompson (ACTRA, FIN and Merritt Award winner), Sébastien Labelle (Merritt Award nominee) and Stephanie MacDonald (Merritt Award winner).

After the sudden death of his partner, Tom goes to a remote farm to attend the funeral and visit the deceased’s family, where he discovers the mother, Agatha, and her son, Francis, don’t know he exists. In a bleak rural setting, trapped by his all-consuming grief, Tom becomes implicated in a dangerous web of lies that threatens his own reality.

Michel Marc Bouchard has been writing vital queer Canadian drama for decades, and Tom at the Farm is no exception,” says director Michael Lake. “It’s a portrait of a family in mourning, and the lengths they will go to protect a lie. It’s darkly funny, poetic, and always surprising. I’m excited for Halifax to see it with this amazing group of actors.”

Workshirt Opera began in 2016 with a production of Virginia Woolf’s Orlando adapted by Sarah Ruhl. Other productions include Many Loves, directed by Ann-Marie Kerr at the 2016 Queer Acts Festival, and Seasons, a performance for 12 actors set to Vivaldi’s Four Seasons.

*Winner of the 2014 Lambda Literary Award for LGBTQ Drama
