East River Hike: Nature Notes – The White-Tailed Deer
May 3, 2018, 10:00am to Noon
East River

Friday, May 4, 7.30 pm
Saturday, May 5, 3.00 pm
Sunday, May 6, 3.00 pm
If you’re looking for a nice, quiet afternoon or evening, you should stay home with your knitting. However, if you’re up for a wild ride with a bunch of crazily energetic actors and a flying giant piece of fruit, you’re invited to experience a performance of Unicorn Theatre’s new musical: “James and the Giant Peach, Jr.” Based on Roald Dahl’s popular children’s book, “James and the Giant Peach, Jr.” tells the story of an orphan, James Henry Trotter. Sent to live with his two horrible aunts in the south of England, James fortunately meets up with Ladahlord, a magician who promises to show him how he can make his life better. Ladahlord makes a potion and instructs James to drink it. However, James manages to spill it and in so doing sets in motion a series of events that involves a gang of (mostly) friendly giant insects and a flight across the Atlantic on a pretty large peach. Reserve your tickets by going to or by calling the Box Office at 902-223-0039. Tickets: $10 adults, $5 children, students and seniors

Gueller’s Grand Finale: Brahms with Marc-André Hamelin - Halifax

Maestro Gueller’s final Festival launches with two of the greatest classical works ever written – and one of the world’s major superstar pianists. Experience Brahms’ magnificent First Piano Concerto with the one and only Marc-André Hamelin, a “paragon of virtuosic refinement” (Boston Globe), and “a titanic interpreter of late Romantic and 20th-century showstoppers” (Ottawa Citizen). Then, Maestro Gueller conducts Symphony Nova Scotia’s expanded orchestra in Brahms’ brilliant First Symphony, a crowning achievement that – like Maestro Gueller himself – celebrates the glories of the past, while looking forward to a bright, triumphant future.
