AWAY HOME Makes TIFF’s Top Ten Film Fest

Award winning filmmaker Jana Stackhouse can add another honour to her ever-growing list...

The Quispamsis, NB native has had her short film AWAY HOME chosen to be a part of TIFF's Canada's Top Ten Film Festival.

Over forty films will screen in various categories - AWAY HOME was selected as part of the Top Ten Student Shorts Programme - "featuring Emerging Canadian filmmakers who prove that they are talents to watch, with shorts that feature playful and delicately crafted animation, inspiring documentary, and affecting coming-of-age stories."

AWAY HOME stars Cape Breton's Billy MacLellan as "Daniel McNeil who returns to his childhood home on the East Coast of Canada at the request of his mother, Evelyn (Lynne Deragon). With cancer spreading throughout her body, she has decided to request physician assisted death. Daniel is tasked with the responsibility to unite his father and siblings, while struggling to say goodbye to his mother." New Brunswick's Peter MacNeill (CALL ME FITZ) plays Evelyn's husband John.

Jana's films have screened at various festivals internationally, including the Atlantic International Film Festival, Los Angeles CineFest, Croydon Film Fest, and Hollywood North Film Fest. She holds a BFA in film from Ryerson University and has received numerous awards, including The Norman Jewison Award and the Harvey Hart Director's Award.

She recently directed the web series NOTE TO SELF for CBC, which has already garnered over a million views. AWAY HOME is her latest short.
