Sea and be Scene’s PIE PATROL

It’s here!!! PIE SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Truth be told in SABS’ world – it’s always PIE TIME… but fall does seems to shift the dessert focus to pie more than at other times of the year.  Just so we’re clear though….WE LOVE PIE and believe whole-heartily it’s worth a 365 day salute!!! And so we’re off…

We’re on a mission – finding the best PIE in the Atlantic Provinces.  From strawberry rhubarb, to pumpkin and squash, to apple cranberry, to the savory selection – there’s a pie to please everyone.  And while we’re on the topic of savory – ever since we posted Lennie Gallant’s mom’s recipe for meat pies one Christmas – the hits to that page have been more than steady…be sure to check it out….

AND PLEASE HELP!!! If you have a favourite spot for pie in the Atlantic Provinces we’d love to hear from you.  Restaurant owners with much requested pies, diner owners with delicious pies, tourists who plan their trips around pie consumption – even those whose home baked pies have pleased the masses…we consider you kindred spirits and in the pursuit of the perfect pie – PLEASE tell us all about it…

Kelley Edwards - PIE Evangeline Diner Wolfville BUTTERSCOTCH

"It's important to bring a friend when ordering pie, that way you get to share two different kinds. At the Evangeline Diner in Wolfville,NS I had the butterscotch, my friend John ordered the pumpkin. This is the best butterscotch pie I've ever had! To me, the crust is what makes the pie, and their's is so flaky, but strong enough to hold the fresh from scratch filling. I strongly suggest to all you Pie Lovers - make the trip to the Evangeline!" Kelley Edwards

recipe for Apple Rasberry Pie by Heather Nolan

"I love the pie at the Evangeline Motel in Grand Pre, but since I'm home in Timberlea, Nova Scotia being Mom, I am making all of my own 🙂  My latest and greatest is an Apple Raspberry. You can find the recipe on my blog!" Heather Nolan (aka Mommy)

sourdough country bakery

I discovered this great pie on a shopping trip in the Valley - BONUS!!!

Apple Cranberry Pie from Sourdough Country Bakery is a great mix of sweet and tart - my favourite combo! If you're in Cambridge, Nova Scotia we highly recommend you stop in and taste for yourself or pick up one of the many great goodies baked fresh daily! sb

Wooden Monkey Pie - Wendy Phillips

"Behold! The Wooden Monkey's signature dish - Chocolate Tofu Pie.

Non-dairy chocolate & organix silken tofu from Acadian Soy with an almond walnut crust and whipped cream.  The pie is gluten free and dairy free with the whipped cream.

The guy holding the pie is General Manager Matthew Gass.  You'll notice in the close up, my husband couldn't even wait for me to take the picture before having a bite!" Wendy Phillips

  5. Gluten-free pies from Nourish in Paradise, NL! Ashley and Chris make the most scrumptious lemon meringue, chocolate cream and (IMHO the best) coconut cream pies!

  6. Either the key lime ice pie or the coconut cream pie at the Trellis Cafe in Hubbards, Hwy 3 on the South Shore.

  7. The best pie, in my opinion is the Butterscotch Pie at Farmer's Daughter in Whycocomagh, NS. Frankly, all of their pies are delicious, but the butterscotch is my must have on every trip to Cape Breton.

  8. I found the best coconut cream pie ever today at The Justamere Cafe in Antigonish, NS. You all have to try it! 😉

  9. Betts' Family Restaurant in Doaktown, NB. They make the best desserts. The pie is think and creamy. The crust is flaky. They make homemade donuts. Chocolate, sugar and plain. And also huge muffins. My favourite is carrot pineapple. The cheesecake icing is on top and in the middle of the muffin!

  11. The best pie I've had is the coconut cream pie at the Cedar House Bakery & Restaurant in Boularderie, Cape Breton. Its mile-high meringue, flaky crust and toasted coconut make it a mouth-watering winner in my family’s books. Reminds my of my nana’s pie, and she was a professional baker. Yummmm!
