It’s here!!! PIE SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Truth be told in SABS’ world – it’s always PIE TIME… but fall does seems to shift the dessert focus to pie more than at other times of the year.  Just so we’re clear though….WE LOVE PIE and believe whole-heartily it’s worth a 365 day salute!!! And so we’re off…

We’re on a mission – finding the best PIE in the Atlantic Provinces.  From strawberry rhubarb, to pumpkin and squash, to apple cranberry, to the savory selection – there’s a pie to please everyone.  And while we’re on the topic of savory – ever since we posted Lennie Gallant’s mom’s recipe for meat pies one Christmas – the hits to that page have been more than steady…be sure to check it out….

AND PLEASE HELP!!! If you have a favourite spot for pie in the Atlantic Provinces we’d love to hear from you.  Restaurant owners with much requested pies, diner owners with delicious pies, tourists who plan their trips around pie consumption – even those whose home baked pies have pleased the masses…we consider you kindred spirits and in the pursuit of the perfect pie – PLEASE tell us all about it…

"It's important to bring a friend when ordering pie, that way you get to share two different kinds. At the Evangeline Diner in Wolfville,NS I had the butterscotch, my friend John ordered the pumpkin. This is the best butterscotch pie I've ever had! To me, the crust is what makes the pie, and their's is so flaky, but strong enough to hold the fresh from scratch filling. Wooden Monkey Pie - Wendy Phillips

"Behold! The Wooden Monkey's signature dish - Chocolate Tofu Pie.

Non-dairy chocolate & organix silken tofu from Acadian Soy with an almond walnut crust and whipped cream.  The pie is gluten free and dairy free with the whipped cream.

  1. My Aunt makes the best "Sugar Pie" there is. If your French Canadian your always looking for that perfect mix of texture, sweetness and of course flavour.

  7. The best pie, in my opinion is the Butterscotch Pie at Farmer's Daughter in Whycocomagh, NS. Frankly, all of their pies are delicious, but the butterscotch is my must have on every trip to Cape Breton.

  9. Betts' Family Restaurant in Doaktown, NB. They make the best desserts. The pie is think and creamy. The crust is flaky. They make homemade donuts. Chocolate, sugar and plain. And also huge muffins. My favourite is carrot pineapple. The cheesecake icing is on top and in the middle of the muffin!

  10. Caribbean Twist in Halifax, has the most amazing Jamaican JerkChicken, but more importantly their made from scratch Coconut Cream Pie is do die for. My mouth waters just thinking of it.

  11. The best pie I've had is the coconut cream pie at the Cedar House Bakery & Restaurant in Boularderie, Cape Breton. Its mile-high meringue, flaky crust and toasted coconut make it a mouth-watering winner in my family’s books. Reminds my of my nana’s pie, and she was a professional baker. Yummmm!
