2017 Mahone Bay Scarecrow Festival & Antique Fair

Posted: September 25, 2017

One of my favourite spots in Nova Scotia, without question, is Mahone Bay.

Perfectly situated along the South Shore, it's a lovely little trip down the old lighthouse route from where I'm based in Chester.

Renowned for its three churches and lovely shops - world travelers and day-trippers roll, stroll and bike into Mahone Bay all year long.  That steady flow of folks is due in large part to the town's wonderful flare for festivals.

That's part of it for me - but truthfully - it's so much bigger than that.

You see, as a self confessed super fan of the GILMORE GIRLS I'll be the first to say - Mahone Bay is just about the closest thing to Stars Hollow as I've ever found outside of my TV set - and never is Mahone Bay more Stars Hollow-ish than during their annual Scarecrow Festival & Antique Fair. (They even have a gorgeous gazebo!!!)

The leaves are turning, the town is buzzing and over 200 handmade scarecrows of all types adorn store fronts and front lawns as far as the eye can see. (BTW - they're all set up by the 'ScareCREW' -  seriously - that's their name!!! Can't you just see Taylor leading that charge)

And with the scarecrows comes all kinds of great activities - from bouncy castles to bubble parties, magic to music, face painting to high flying aerial acrobatics.  There's even a candlelit pumpkin path filled with hundreds of creatively carved, lit pumpkins where cookies and cider will be served.

Oh, and did I mention the antiques?! If you're a furniture lover, a specific collector or simply looking to spruce up your space this season - you're sure to find a treasure or two....or ten at the Antique Fair.  This year there are 27 vendors in 3 locations with a more items than you could count.  I can't wait!

And I forgot to tell you the best part - yup there's more!

On top of the lovely town in the picturesque place, the wonderful people, the great stories, the remarkable scarecrows, the amazing activities, the pumpkin path  and antique fair - the BEST part - it's FREE!!!  Ya can't beat it!

We've made it a MUST-DO, annual family tradition - The Sidekick (to the right at 4) has grown up going and looks forward to all the Scarecrow Festival fun.  We sure hope to see you there this weekend! SABS

The 21st Annual Mahone Bay Scarecrow Festival & Antique Fair runs from Friday, September 29th to Sunday, October 1st, 2017.
