Mother Goose / French for Fun Program- Petit de Grat Library

"Beaux Vendredis" lobster, clam & crab suppers
Every Friday until September 4
Locals and visitors alike love this experience for its informal atmosphere and delicious seafood. Locals freely offer to show visitors the "real" way to eat a lobster, while exchanging stories and laughs. All meals served with roll and melted butter. Live local music. Musique Royale! 32nd Summer Festival
runs until September 12
A cross-province festival established in 1985, Musique Royale brings performances of early and traditional music to settings of historic and cultural significance within communities throughout the province. St. John's Anglican Church, at the heart of old town Lunenburg - a UNESCO World Heritage site - is the primary venue for Musique Royale events. Musicians from the local, national and international concert stage perform in over 20 communities each July and August. Consult the website for more information.

Japan: Two Perspectives - Cape Breton Centre for Craft & Design
Runs until September 8th
Japan: Two Perspectives revolves around the comings and goings of two Cape Breton photographers - Charlie Morrison & Chad Tobin - as they immerse themselves in the flow of Tokyo and its cultural nuances. You will experience, through their photography, some of the daily adventures as they navigate their way through the beautiful city and beyond, while recording its people living everyday life. Acoustic Roots Festival- Two Rivers Wildlife Park, Cape Breton

2017 Hike the Highlands Festival- Cabot Trail
September 8 - 17
A ten day fall hiking festival in September along the Cabot Trail, that features guided hikes, evening activities & presentations, the hiker distance award, opening & closing ceremonies and a photo contest. Check out the website for details.




Atlantic Film Festival- various venues, Halifax
September 14 - 21
The Atlantic Film Festival (AFF) is an eight-day celebration of film, media and music from around the world. It’s a festival that turns Halifax – a charming and historic coastal city – into an international Mecca for the arts, abuzz with filmmakers, industry types and film lovers.  For more info click here


Garrison Oktoberfest- Halifax Seaporthfxoctoberfest
September 16 - October 3
The Halifax Oktoberfest is a yearly celebration of German heritage.  People of all ages are invited for a free and authentic taste of German culture throughout the Seaport. The Word on the Street- Halifax Waterfront
September 16
The Word on the Street is an annual one-day literary festival that takes place on the third Sunday of September in conjunction with other Word on the Street host cities. The event celebrates reading and writing, promotes Atlantic and Canadian writers, poets, books, and magazines, and raises awareness about literacy issues in Atlantic Canada. 18th Annual Whirligig & Weathervane Festival- Shelburne
September 16 - 17
For many years the festival was the only one of its kind in the world and continues to be the largest featuring hand crafted machines and only one of its kind in Canada.  Whirligig makers can register in advance or at the Festival. Check it out here.

Lumiere- various venues, Sydney
September 21 - 23
Held each September, Lumière is a transformative art festival that takes place in Sydney, Cape Breton. The festival consists of workshops and community events, and culminates in a spectacular art-at-night event.This year’s festival will take place over three days on September 21 - 23, 2017.  Click here for more details.

2016 Deep Roots Music Festival- Wolfville
September 21-24
The Canadian Deep Roots Music Festival is an  event enjoyed by music lovers of all ages. With the natural surroundings as a beautiful backdrop, the Festival brings together some of the finest folk and roots singers, songwriters and musicians in the world for a weekend of concerts, workshops, and celebration. 38th Annual Tatamagouche Oktoberfest
September 22 - 23
This event includes a beer garden on Saturday afternoon plus a dance on Friday and Saturday evenings. Top notch German bands play endlessly at the three functions. The concession booths include Canadian and German cuisine, such as sausages, schnitzel, lobster roll and delicate cheesecakes. Mahone Bay Scarecrow and Antique Fair
September 29 - October 1
The Scarecrow Festival and Antique Fair is one of Nova Scotia's most popular Fall events attracting visitors from all over the continent. We have 100's of stage worthy scarecrows decorating the entire town. Stroll the fabulous and fun Pumpkin Walk, where hundreds of carved pumpkins are on display.
