A Sweet Release...
Posted: October 17, 2016
Somewhere in between touring the world as a member of breakout band Hey Rosetta! and appearing on recordings by Matt Mays, Jenn Grant, Two Hours Traffic and many more, Kinley Dowling found herself writing her debut solo record.
Really, she was writing letters, but those letters soon turned into something more. Sometimes all it takes is just a little bit of encouragement. After years with Hey, Rosetta!, Kinley has trusted the advice of her friends to take her first solo musical steps.
Kinley’s debut solo recording, Letters Never Sent, produced by Paper Lions guitarist Colin Buchanan (Paper Lions, SORREY, Coyote) was recorded at The Hill Sound Studio in Charlottetown, PEI by Adam Gallant, mixed by Buchanan and mastered by Nick Fowler.
Musical collaborators on the recording include Thayne Campbell (English Words, SORREY), Andy MacDonald (Two Hours Traffic, Golden Cinema), Andrew Murray (English Words, Teem) and Rose Cousins.
Letters Never Sent features seven dreamy songs, best described as Tropical Quiet Pop, written by Kinley Dowling over the last five years. While some might describe Hey Rosetta’s music as big, sprawling, complicated and at times intense, Kinley’s music is more introverted and personal.
“I don’t like confrontation, so I often write songs to deal with how I’m feeling. I think sometimes it’s better to make art instead of starting a possible fight”. Each song on Letters Never Sent is really a letter to a specific person in her life.
