THE CAPE BRETON SUMMERTIME REVUE Is Back!!!

A Sweet Release...

THE CAPE BRETON SUMMERTIME REVUE - THE NEXT GENERATION RETURNS!
Iconic Celebration of Cape Breton to Tour Nova Scotia

After a successful return to the stage in the summer of 2015 at the Savoy Theatre, The Cape Breton Summertime Revue - The Next Generation is back this time touring the province culminating in two performances at the Rebecca Cohn Auditorium in Halifax on August 12 and 13.  The “Revue” also has stops in Mabou (Strathspey Place), Pictou (Decoste Centre) and the Savoy Theatre in Glace Bay.

Original “Revue” alumnus, Maynard Morrison returns to direct the production along with musical director Stephen Muise and band leader, Fred Lavery.  Ed MacDonald returns as head writer.

The band includes Fred Lavery, Stephen Muise, Brian Talbot, Allie Bennett as well as Rachel Davis and Darren McMullen from the band, Coig - one of Atlantic Canada’s premiere traditional groups.

Performers include Peter MacInnis, Stephanie Hennessy, Margaret MacDonald and Jordan Musycsyn.  New to the cast this year is popular Sydney singer, writer, radio host and performer, Jennifer Sheppard.

In 1986, The Cape Breton Summertime Revue opened at the Savoy Theatre.  Following in the footsteps of The Rise and Follies, the “Revue” was comprised of sketches and original music based on themes exploring life on Cape Breton Island.  It continued extended runs to large and receptive audiences across Nova Scotia and Canada until 1998.

The “Revue”  was a springboard for the careers of Bette MacDonald, Maynard Morrison, Heather Rankin, Raylene Rankin, and Rita MacNeil to name a few.  The show was a part of the fabric of Cape Breton, celebrating Cape Bretoners’  ability to laugh at themselves and with each other.  It was a message that continues to resonate far beyond the island’s borders.

The “Next Generation” is proud to carry this tradition forward.  The songs and stories continue to reflect the essence of Cape Breton culture.  The music, both traditional ad original, speaks to love of home and the comedy is as side-splitting as ever.  The show is produced by Savoy Theatre and presented by Brookes Diamond Productions in Halifax.
