Where's your favourite place in Nova Scotia to grab a bite to eat?

This list could become very lengthy, but I will give you my top three favourites. The Appleseed Modern Diner in New Glasgow – for a unique selection of dishes that use local, fresh ingredients, Barb's Family Diner in Westville – for memorable service and delicious homestyle cooking (especially their breakfasts) and last but not least – Hebel's Restaurant for a fine dining experience with incredible culinary creations made by Chef and Owner Peter Hebel.

I also have to add that outside of Pictou County – Murphy's Fish and Chips in Truro is family owned with great service and amazing food. Their fish and chips are, in my opinion, second to none.

LACEY MORRELL Cool People Profile highlightsWhere’s your favourite place in Nova Scotia to grab a pint?

I don't typically consume beverages that are measured in pints, but I do like to enjoy a nice cold ginger ale while listening to my super talented, local musician-friends at one of the many welcoming venues around this wonderful province. In Pictou County, the local music scene has really grown over the last year, with venues like The Commune in New Glasgow and Fat Tony's in Pictou opening their doors and supporting local musicians.

Where’s your favourite place to shop in Nova Scotia?

I really enjoy a morning spent shopping at the New Glasgow Farmer's Market. Whether I need groceries, snacks or gifts, they have something for everyone and all products are sourced or hand-made by hard-working local vendors. They are open every Saturday from 9am-1pm and it really is an enjoyable place to visit with family and friends.

Where in Nova Scotia would we stand to see your favourite view?

Big Island, in Pictou County, has been the place of my dreams since I was a little kid. I would spend summers on the beach building sand castles, digging for clams and ending the hot summer days with music around a bonfire. There is nothing quite like spending a full day beach combing around the many rocky points and looking for treasures in the sand, while the tide shifts in and out beside you. My favorite views can also be seen in the video for my single Plenty - filmed at Big Island and Melmerby Beach in Pictou County.

Name 3 things we’ve gotta do when we visit Nova Scotia:

I consider myself to be a life-long, Nova Scotian tour guide, for any friends and family requiring of the service. There are just SO many things to see and do here in the province. But if I have to narrow it down to three:

1. Meet the Locals – We love to share our love for Nova Scotia, and we enjoy meeting new people who are visiting. The best thing you can do is talk to everyone you meet and you will be advised on the best restaurants, activities and hidden gems across this province. Don't be nervous, we are friendly and very happy that you are here!

2. Visit one, or more, of our Provincial Parks – There are so many different parks, staffed with knowledgeable and passionate individuals who are ready to teach you something new. You can experience the beauty of our outdoors while fishing, camping and hiking the trails.

3. Whale Watching – Whether it be in Cheticamp, Cape Breton or to the south of the province in Digby, this experience will touch your heart and soul. The exhilaration I feel at the sight of a whale in the open ocean only becomes stronger each time that I witness their strength and beauty. While you are never guaranteed to see a whale, you will experience the ocean from an entirely different perspective.

What makes Nova Scotia such a special place on earth for you?

cdbaby-Heartland-photoNova Scotia is my Heartland, and my recent album is titled HEARTLAND as I wanted to dedicate it to the places and people that are in my heart. That means that this is where I belong and where my heart feels at home.

I have been very lucky to have had to opportunity to travel throughout my life, to different provinces and countries. Although I have met incredible people, and had unforgettable experiences, Nova Scotia always calls me to come back.

Everything about Nova Scotia makes it special to me – the land, the wildlife, the music, the food, the history and especially the people. All of these individual parts are the inspiration to the stories behind my songs and they give me my motivation as a songwriter. My love for this place then urges me to share these stories and music with others, so that they too can have a piece of Nova Scotia to carry with them.

SABS Note of Noteworthiness

SEA AND BE SCENE TV spent a wonderful day in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia (click here to watch the episode) during which we visited Glasgow Square and while we were there we were treated to a lovely performance by Lacey Morrell - the same stage where just weeks earlier she held played to a sold out theatre for her debut album release. HEARTLAND was produced by multi award winning artist J.P.Cormier so it's great to share the performance of the title track here as captured during that release concert - with Mr.Cormier flanking her fantastically!
