Now that spring has arrived, our thoughts turn to summer vacations and experiencing the great outdoors in all its glory. To help spark some ideas when making your plans, here's just a sampling of Atlantic Canadian possibilities as captured during my recent trip to The 2016 Outdoor Adventure Show

Central Newfoundland (centralnewfoundland.com) - Fogo Island, located in central Newfoundland, features the world famous Fogo Island Inn, currently found on Oprah's bucket list. Visitors can also enjoy the walking and hiking trails around the island.

Ocean Quest (oceanquestadventures.com) - Located 20 minutes outside of St. John's, Newfoundland, Ocean Quest provides shipwreck and iceberg diving. Upcoming adventures include scuba diving in the abandoned iron ore mines of Bell Island.

Tourism Southwest Newfoundland and Labrador (tourismsouthwest.ca) - Located in Port-Aux Basques, where ferries land after departing Sydney, Nova Scotia, visitors have the opportunity to walk through the Rose Blanche Lighthouse -- a restored stone lighthouse built over 100 years ago.

Tuckamore Lodge (tuckamorelodge.com) - Located in the northern part of Newfoundland near St. Anthony, along the Viking Trail, Tuckamore Lodge is the ideal place for accommodations to experience boat tours by marine biologists, salmon spawning, and the actual location where Vikings once landed in Newfoundland many years ago.

Western Newfoundland (gowesternnewfoundland.com) - One of the most iconic places in Western Newfoundland is the Gros Morne National Park -- one of the few places in the world where you can walk on the earth's mantle.

And when you're partaking of the great outdoors you'll want to stay warm on cool nights. Look no further than A Twist of Iron Works (atwistofiron.com) located in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. This company makes unique firepits out of recycled propane tanks that are easy to transport.

Enjoy the great outdoors of Atlantic Canada. JMS
