2015 Wishes, Goals & Resolutions

As another wonderful year of celebrating Canada's East Coast draws to a close we find ourselves truly grateful for all the fun we had in 2014.

With this New Year upon us - we thought we'd check in with some of the amazing Atlantic Canadians we've featured to get their wishes, goals and resolutions for 2015.

Have a look...

I'm really looking forward to putting out our new album THE BLISS - it was recorded almost a year ago so we're dying for people to hear it. Also looking forward to our tour in February and March! And whatever else comes our way!

my new year's resolutions

To be healthy and happy! To work hard! To play hard! To write more! To make meaningful connections with people! Be better with money! Read more! To be a good daughter, sister and friend!... So many resolutions, so little time!

First off, I'm just looking forward to being alive for another year and spending it with the people I love. Oh yeas, I'm also releasing a brand new record on Feb 17 which means a lot of touring and more music!

my new year's resolutions

...being more of aware of my life events as they happen. I've been getting better at soaking everything in and not letting it pass me by. Being more present, as they say 😉 Doesn't sound too hard right?!

...to turn on the TV at various points in 2015 and see headlines for good news at home and around the world, instead of bad. Hoping for a peaceful year.

looking forward

...to build on my first year in Toronto in 2015! 2014 was great, with lots of new and old friends and adventures in life, acting, music and teaching. I'm stoked to see what happens this year! Recently got the news that my first feature film as a music composer was named by SOCAN as one of the Top 3 film soundtracks written by a young Canadian in 2014. The film, BATTLE FOR SKYARK got picked up for distribution in 2015 by Lionsgate Pictures (the studio behind THE HUNGER GAMES) so that's all exciting and new too!

my new year's resolutions

I have way too many New Years resolutions. Some are life-related, some work-related. But I guess one that encompasses both would be that I want to try to not be so hard on myself, and yet try to remain humble at the same time. It's something I feel artists have to constantly balance. Here's to a 2015 with lots of work and play, and and endless supply of hilarious cat videos on YouTube.

I'm really looking forward to heading back on the road with The Once to resume our own headlining tours. Touring with the Passenger family these past several months has been absolutely incredible (and we still have shows to play in Australia & New Zealand before it's all said and done) and we'll miss everyone dearly...but it'll be exciting to be playing our own shows again. We've learned so much from them all...about touring, about the music industry, about ourselves. Looking forward to putting that knowledge into practice in 2015 and continuing to raise the bar in the music we make and travelling down many more roads.

my new year's resolutions

...while focusing on The Once and while I continue to try and be a better musician, song writer and band mate, I will also be sure to focus on being a good husband. Balancing time away with time at home was not easy in 2014...and it will not be without its challenges in 2015. But it's so important to work towards finding that balance and to keep the home fires burning while on the road. It's everything.

Happy New Year everyone!! May 2015 provide more answers than questions, more prosperity than poverty, more joy than sorrow and above all, more love than hate.

I'm also going to be moving into a house and finally have the chance to plant my own vegetable garden. Super stoked about that! It's going to be a good year.

hh2... to play with a fresh new box of 365 days coming my way. I get to fill them up with all my ideas, doodles, drawings and illustrations. In short, I plan to dump the contents of my head and work on the projects that matter the most to me- children’s books and writing. As they say (I forget who), the new year is a big book about opportunity and the 1st messy creative chapter starts on New Year’s Day!

Current Project to kick off the new year- a book featuring this fun fella!

my new year's resolutions
In 2015, I resolve to use more hashtags ####… ##!!! On a more serious note, my real resolution is to laugh more. It’s all too easy to get “stuck in the weeds” with all this overrated adult stuff. We often overlook our personal permissions to just stop and laugh out loud every once and a while. So, here’s to immaturity, silliness and to our neglected inner children! The dishes will always be there and if the laundry starts to resemble Stone Henge, you can add that to the life laugh track too.

…health and happiness. I think we could all muse in much greater detail about what we'd like to see in our lives in the next year, but ultimately, it comes down to those two things, doesn't it? Those two things dictate all the rest, and if you have those two things, all the rest will come.

looking forward
…making my second short film. 2013 saw some great things happen on that front for me with my first short,  One More Song. 2014 was the prep year, and now we have funding to make my next film, Keystone. As a full time musician, it's freeing and fun to branch out into other art forms, and I look forward to scoring this new short as well - the interaction of music and film has always interested me, and it's exciting to control both the image and the music in this case. Of course, I will also be continuing to tour my new album that came out mid-2014, The Great Wave and am excited to see where those shows will take me.

my new year's resolutions

As many folks know or are certainly beginning to know, I have been dealing with a particularly debilitating auto-immune disease called Psoriatic Arthritis. So I’ll preface whatever other wishes or hopes I have for the coming year with an “I hope to find the right cocktail of treatments/medicines to get it under control and get back on the road”.  Other than that I wish to not have to deal with too much snow or snowstorm related incidents. I mean let the skiers, snowshoe-rs and snow-mobilers have their fun for a while but keep it off the roads.

looking forward

Getting back on the road. I just released a new album before Christmas (called Rogue Doubt) that I am very excited about and it is already getting some great acclaim. But I am not really road ready yet due to my disease. I can still play the occasional gig. But touring, driving for hours every day and performing every night isn’t in the cards right now. Planning and booking a tour takes time far in advance of the tour start so hopefully I will see enough improvement soon to begin doing some bookings abroad.

my new year's resolutions
I’m not really one for resolutions. But I am one for plans. Having this disease has made making plans in advance a pretty futile concept. So hopefully I can get back to a place where I can plan ahead more future endeavours. Walking with a cane doesn’t seem particularly inviting during these East Coast winters. So I expect I will be doing a little hibernating over the rough months. That time will be focused on coming up with a next step plan of attack. I went from an average of almost 250 shows a year from 2008-2012. 2014 I only played about 11. So I certainly hope to get closer to my pre-2012 levels. Not expecting to crank out 250 yet, but somewhere more active would be awesome.
