In the heart of downtown Halifax, Nova Scotia is the city's latest offering in retro fare.

Abode Boutique is perfectly placed on Doyle St, just off what has become known as "Vintage Row", Queen Street's brightly coloured vintage clothing shops.

vintage-row HALIFAXOwned and operated by Daun Windover, the store is a flashback to mid-century modern design. Daun, an alumni of NSCAD, who has a background in film and textile design, has a long held love of this type of decor so it seemed the perfect fit for her next endeavor.

daun-windover"I started the business because of my passion for great design and beautiful craftsmanship, and I saw that there was a limited availability of Scandinavian furniture in Nova Scotia. Denmark, Sweden and Finland have a long history of iconic design and architecture and I have been a fan (and a collector) of mid-century modern for over 40 years. I originally wanted to be in the Northend of Halifax, where I have lived for 25 years, but the opportunity came to be downtown, close to the prime shopping, Spring Garden Road area, and so I jumped at it. I love it down here!

abode merchandiseAbode Boutique is always a fun shop to visit, and if you have the time to browse, you can get lost in time looking at items, from decor and design to fun gadgets and more.  Plus Daun is a wonderful storyteller and engaging proprietor - and you'll also get to meet lovely Lola, Abode's canine shop girl (named after that song "Whatever Lola Wants, Lola Gets").
