QUEEN OF THE CROWS Flying to Cannes

Posted: April 22, 2014

The Cannes Film Festival features films from all around the world - Hollywood blockbusters to searing documentaries, feature length movies to film shorts too, and screening amidst this year's offering - QUEEN OF THE CROWS.

Jason Rogerson & Harmony WagnerThe 11 minute film written and directed by PEI's own Harmony Wagner and produced by fellow Islander Jason Rogerson (Periscope Pictures) will play in the “CANADA: Not Short On Talent” program at the Short Film Corner during the festival that runs May 15 - 22, 2014.

The film stars Charlottetown's Kristen Thompson (Elsa) and Kelly Caseley as her mother, and tells the story of "an 11 year old girl who gets in trouble for acting like a crow."

QUEEN OF THE CROWS screened to great reviews at the Atlantic Film Festival last September and has won CBC's 3-2-1 Award - even Jian Ghomeshi dedicated his April 10th Q Essay to the film (click here to listen to that).

Indeed this little film has made some great waves and naturally the filmmakers are thrilled. In order to be in Cannes when it screens the team has launched a kickstarter campaign - here's a what they've written...

Charlottetown's Kristen Thompson in QUEEN OF THE CROWS"Our short film, QUEEN OF THE CROWS, was selected to play at Telefilm’s Canada: Not Short on Talent program in the Short Film Corner at the Cannes Film Festival in France this May.  Chosen from hundreds of entries, this is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for us to promote PEI and it's burgeoning film community to producers, festival programmers, buyers, and distributors looking for content.

As one of 30 Canadian shorts selected, we will be granted unprecedented access to major industry players, both Canadian and international.  Our goal is not only to promote QUEEN OF THE CROWS in the global film and broadcast market, but also to pitch TV series and feature film ideas and make alliances to help kickstart the PEI film industry."

We wish them all the very best on this adventure and the next! Congrats to the entire QUEEN OF THE CROWS team! SABS
