REPUBLIC OF DOYLE – 2 Part Season 5 Finale

Posted: February 4, 2014

"I can't believe it."

That's a phrase I said more than once to the cast during the Premiere Party in St.John's last October.... Season 5 of REPUBLIC OF DOYLE - Amazing! Like me, they were all blown away by how quickly the series had flown by.

And now I find myself saying "I can't believe it" again.  For here we are, the night before the season finale - and despite it's super-sized 16 epsiodes, it still feels like a blink ago that Jake was bound for Mexico on a cargo ship in "Good Cop, Bueno Cop".

501

This season has thrown us for a lot of loops to be sure - like Leslie's husband who shows up out of nowhere then leaves, and  a teenage girl who starts out as a con-artist and turns out to be Jake's daughter, and how about Des and Tinny who finally got together after all, and Jake and Leslie...who... well... that remains to be seen.

For you thrill seekers there were plenty of car chases, lots of gun play and enough explosives to sink 10 ships.

Paul Gross, Allan Hawco, Nicholas Campbell, Lynda Boyd

We've seen all kinds of guest stars return to the REPUBLIC too - like Paul Gross (Kevin Crocker), Nicholas Campbell (Martin Poole), Victor Garber (Garrison Steele), Alan Doyle (Wolf Redmond), Scott Grimes (Jimmy O'Rourke) and Shannon Tweed (Frances Lemont) to name but  a few.

Plus a whole slew of first timers joined in on the action including Craig Olejnik and Ennis Esmer (The Listener), Yannick Bisson (Murdoch Mysteries), Sophie Simmons (Gene Simmons - Family Jewels), Michael Buie (BLACKBIRD) and appearing in the 2 part season finale, NL native Natasha Henstridge (SPECIES).

Back to back episodes means an early start time - so book your babysitters, pour your pints and set your DVR times accordingly.  Here's the rundown...

Episode 515 "Expansion" will begin at 8 pm (8:30 NT) on CBC-TV - in it Jake and Mal investigate death threats at the airport targeting construction magnate, Elsa Tessier (Kaitlyn Leeb), which quickly turns explosive. While on the trail of Elsa’s attacker, they encounter ruthless bookie Harley Denief (Olunike Adeliyi), who’s now running with Elsa’s dangerous rival, Blake Brogan (Jason Gray-Stanford). Controversial former Mayor William Cadigan Clarke (Rick Roberts) is released from prison a changed man with scores to settle and a grudge against Leslie and Jake. Leslie and Jake work closely together to uncover Clarke’s plans. Meanwhile, Rose and Des discover something missing from the Doyle office safe. At the station, Leslie gets off on the wrong foot with new police Inspector Valerie O’Brien (Natasha Henstridge).

ROD-515 Expansion

Then immediately following that - part 2 Episode 516 "Burried" begins at 9pm (9:30 NT) the official write up is as follows...
Jake is up against the wall and faces the consequences of his actions at the worst possible time - when a loved one’s life is at stake. With the whole city watching, Jake races the clock to outwit and take down the dangerous alliance of Blake Brogan (Jason Gray-Stanford) and Harley Denief (Olunike Adeliyi). At the station, the Doyles navigate around determined Inspector Valerie O’Brien’s (Natasha Henstridge) inquisition about Jake’s whereabouts. Rose and Des uncover a shocking betrayal from one of their own and now have to face revealing it to the family. Sloan weighs her options in light of her recent decisions, and makes a strong choice about her future. And Leslie taps into all of her survival skills when pushed into a tight, life-threatening corner. Up against all the odds, can Jake and the Doyles pull together before it’s too late?

TUNE INNow... one of the many joys of doing what I do is - on occasion - being able to screen shows before they air.

At 2:55am Atlantic time I completed watching the two part season 5 finale of REPUBLIC OF DOYLE and all I will write about what I saw is....

 I can't believe it.

I just can't believe it.

Believe me - you won't want to miss a minute! SABS
