Don Brownrigg – At Home Here in Nova Scotia

Occupation: Musician

Place of Birth: Corner Brook, Newfoundland---but that’s just where the hospital is...I’m from Codroy Valley, Newfoundland

Currently Resides: Halifax, NS

Where’s your favourite place in Nova Scotia to grab a coffee?

Javablend, North Street. It’s just around the corner from my special little corner of the city where I live.

Where’s your favourite place in Nova Scotia to grab a pint?

Edna, a brand new restaurant on Gottingen Street. Great food, great atmosphere, and a really great, dark beer that I like (I forget the exact name - it has a crazy name - like axe murderer or something. Um, yeah.)

Where’s your favourite place to shop in Nova Scotia?

The Queen Street strip of Put Me On, Elsie’s, etc. Port of Wines is just across the street! I also adore thrift shopping (Value Village, Salvation Army, Kijiji)

Where in Nova Scotia would we stand to see your favourite view?

I can’t tell...I keep it a secret! But a close second is on top of the last cement signal hut at the end of Duncan’s Cove hike.
Also - that big tree to the side of the road up near Stewiacke? You know the one? Everyone knows the one. It’s huge and stands alone in the middle of the field.

Name 3 things we’ve gotta do when we visit Nova Scotia:

1. The birth canal at Polly’s Cove and or Duncan’s Cove hike.

2. Get a Javablend coffee and walk across the MacDonald bridge or the waterfront

3. Go to McNab’s Island for the day.

What makes Nova Scotia such a special place on earth for you?

The amazing autumn. The small town feeling of Halifax. It’s proximity to western Newfoundland (where I’m from). The Scottish culture (also a huge part of my upbringing - yes, I’m a Scottish Newf!)
