Kim D’Eon – No Place Like Home in Nova Scotia

Occupation: Television Host and Producer

Place of Birth: Halifax, Nova Scotia

Currently Resides: Toronto, Ontario (for the last 10 years)

Where’s your favourite place in Nova Scotia to grab a coffee?

Stevoreno’s on Brunswick Street. Lots of good memories there.

Where’s your favourite place in Nova Scotia to grab a pint?

Where ISN’T, is a better question. Halifax and pints just go together. Some of my fave spots include the Economy Shoe Shop on Argyle Street and The Lower Deck in Halifax’s Historic Properties. But, I’m more of a wine person and have adored spending time sipping vino on The Bicycle Thief’s patio overlooking the harbour.

Where’s your favourite place to shop in Nova Scotia?

Biscuit on Argyle Street…but there are lots of cool new clothing shops that have opened up that I know nothing about. I’ve been living in Toronto for the last 10 years and I usually don’t have time to shop when I go home to visit, so I miss out on the latest openings. But, being at the Halifax Shopping Centre is always nostalgic for me.

What's the one meal you miss the most when you're away from Nova Scotia?

Fresh mussels. I try to get them whenever I’m home. I recently had a great batch at Murphy’s On The Water. Also, Athen’s Resto on Quinpool Road makes the best Greek salad I’ve ever had and Dharma Sushi on Argyle makes the best Japanese salad dressing in the world.

Where in Nova Scotia would we stand to see your favourite view?

Crystal Crescent Beach.

Name 3 things we’ve gotta do when we visit Nova Scotia:

1. Go to LaHave Bakery in Mahone Bay. Eat copious amounts of baked goods.

2. Travel the Cabot Trail in Cape Breton. Camp if you can.

3. Drive through Herring Cove/Sambro “loop” and make a day-long pit stop at Crystal Crescent beach. Hope it’s not foggy!

What makes Nova Scotia such a special place on earth for you?

My family and friends. My childhood memories. The people. Fish and Chip trucks. The Dingle. The smell of the ocean. Being able to drive to a lake or beach in 20-30 minutes from anywhere.
