Ryan Doucette – No Place Like Home in Nova Scotia

Occupation: Actor

Place of Birth: Baie Sainte Marie, NS

Currently Resides: Los Angeles, CA

Where’s your favourite place in  Nova Scotia to grab a coffee?

I love coffee. I could drink it all day. The places I tend to gravitate to in Halifax are Fred’s and Java Blend. Mainly because I know a lot of people who go there, but the best coffee is my morning coffee in my kitchen. Nothing beats a cup of ‘Just Us’ coffee, made with a French press, when you haven't quite found your face yet.

Where’s your favourite place in  Nova Scotia to grab a pint?

Tom’s little Havana is a great place.  It’s a type of hole in the wall bar, that’s charmingly small.  But then again, there’s the Henry House that also has a great atmosphere. Or the The Shoe Shop is a bar  that I have enjoyed many a Guinness. The Carlton always has awesome music, and I do quite frequently go to the Rock Bottom Brewery…. Jesus, I drink a lot!

Where’s your favourite place to shop in Nova Scotia?

I don’t really enjoy shopping. Actually, I [email protected]*$ing hate it.  But If I REALLY have to go and buy a  gift or something, I guess I would have to say "Woozles”. It’s a children’s book store that has a lot of cool toys you can play with. You can waste an entire afternoon in that shop.

Where in  Nova Scotia would we stand to see your favourite view?

If I am there... directly behind me, I guess.  If not, you need to make it there by yourself. It’s a little place in the Blomidon provincial park.  I don’t really remember where it is, but I know it’s where we shot the scene in CLOUDBURST, where I am laying on the hood of the truck and the cowboy hat looks like it’s floating in the air

Name 3 things we’ve gotta do when we visit  Nova Scotia:

1. The Cabot trail. You need to take your time. Make it last a week or so.
2.  Get polluted drunk and try to sit on the head of Cornwallis’s statue in the South end of Halifax
3. Go ring my mom’s door bell, and run away. It will drive her nuts

What makes  Nova Scotia such a special place on earth for you?

It’s where I come from and it’s where grew up. It made me who I am.  A short actor. A big thank you very much to the Acadian gene.

  1. I love Ryan Doucette. I'm from down in Nova Scotia where he comes from, and I've seen him many times. He used to come to our elementary school and do skits, and our favorite was always one that he called Jello. It was French, so I can't really explain it, but it was hilarious. He also came and gave us some acting tips I guess you could call them in high school and that was a fun time too.
His mother works at my school and it would definitely drive her nuts if you went and rang her doorbell and ran away, but she's a nice person. 🙂
I'm proud to be able to say I know Ryan and his background, and I'm glad that he's had the opportunities he's had so far. Looking forward to more movies, Ryan!

  2. Great actor, and great guy. Always a pleasure to see him on stage, or on screen.

  3. First man to have made me laugh so bad in Nova Scotia when I arrived 8 years ago. You need to go see him on stage or wherever he is, he is the most serious funny guy I know !!!

  4. One of my sons, Regis, and Ryan were in the same classroom in high shcool. Every day, Regis would come home and say: Mom, guess what Ryan did to make us laugh today? He would then proceed to tell me how the whole class had laughed at his antics. I suppose that is how he got the bug to make people laugh. We are all very proud of him!
