Where’s your favourite place in Newfoundland & Labrador to grab a coffee?

Harbour Grounds, at the bottom of Humber Road in Corner Brook. Great café-au-lait, and killer view of Corner Brook Harbour.

Where’s your favourite place in Newfoundland & Labrador to grab a pint?

CONFESSION: I never go out to “grab a pint”. I do, however, go out to lunch quite often, and my favourite place is Newfound Sushi, owned by my childhood buddy Kevin Vincent and voted one of the top ten restaurants in NL. Awesome sushi and service!

Where’s your favourite place to shop in Newfoundland & Labrador?

For women’s clothing in Corner Brook, you can’t beat Susan’s Fine Clothing. Beautiful quality, selection, and service.

For sporty gear in Corner Brook these are the best: George’s Ski World, and Sideways. (Also owned by childhood buddies Steve Butt, Rebecca Pike, and Jen Lundrigan)

Dark Cove photo by Tara ManuelWhere in Newfoundland & Labrador would we stand to see your favourite view?

On the beach in Dark Cove, Bay of Islands, where we own a beach shack. (25 minute drive from Corner Brook) Check out the pic!

Name 3 things we’ve gotta do when we visit Newfoundland & Labrador:

1. Take a drive down the south shore of the Bay of Islands from Corner Brook to Bottle Cove. Warning: Mind will be blown, and you will want to sell everything you own and move there.

2. Visit Gros Morne. Hike the mountain, and hang out on the white sand dunes of Western Brook Beach. You will never be the same.

3. See some great local theatre in Cow Head at the Gros Morne Theatre Festival by Theatre Newfoundland and Labrador. You will laugh, cry, and be surprised at the fine quality of work performed in a tiny space.

What makes Newfoundland & Labrador such a special place on earth for you?

The Manuel’s have been here for more than 300 years. I have been lucky enough to meet an excellent Montreal man, lure him back to this island, and make babies with him, which we are raising in the home of my ancestors. This means a great deal to me. I don’t want to leave, as so many of generation have done. I want to continue to create original work here in the place I was born, and to have a hand in building it’s present and future.

SABS Note of Noteworthiness

  1. Dame Tara Manuel knows whereof she speaks. We are fortunate that she and hubby came back here to raise their family.
