2013 WOMAN MAKING WAVES… Opening Night

Posted: March 16, 2013

After the first round of sessions the Lord Nelson's Regency Ballroom was buzzing.

The third annual conference was underway and so many of the region's most talented TV and movie makers had gathered to mix and mingle.

Gourmet mini burgers and freshly popped popcorn were just a few of the fixins on the 'concession stand' menu - ideally suited for an evening that would include informal speeches, a lovely silent auction and an Atlantic premiere screening.

Many of the weekend's special guests were in attendance including award winning actress Leah Pinsent and actress/writer/director Ruth Lawrence - who were first up this morning with a great "In Conversation" session.

Also captured amidst the many...a great exchange between Cape Breton's own writer/director Michael Melski and New Brunswick born writer/director Gia Milani who'll be featured in Sunday's sessions.

I was thrilled to finally meet NL's amazing Barbara Doran who will speak today on "Taking Your Book to the Screen" and internationally acclaimed producer, researcher and clearance specialist Elizabeth Klinck , in town to helm the workshop "If You Hear It, Clear It".

Also wonderful to catch up with writer/director Deanne Foley, producer/artist/broadcaster Angela Antle, connect with Tara Manuel and so many more of Atlantic Canada's talented and creative ladies.

Indeed the room was packed with women from all areas of the industry (some talented men too!)...newcomers and established professionals alike.

What a night!!!

Tickets for individual events throughout the weekend are still available.
