Angus Swantee – At Home Here in Nova Scotia

Occupation: Owner - Barn Burner Films

Place of Birth: River John, NS

Currently Resides: Halifax, NS

Where’s your favourite place in Nova Scotia to grab a coffee?

I’m in the minority of not being a coffee drinker, but do spend a lot of time in coffee shops for meetings.  Coburg Coffee House, being close to Dalhousie University, has a great atmosphere.

Where’s your favourite place in Nova Scotia to grab a pint?

Rogue’s Roost on Spring Garden (great food too).

Where’s your favourite place to shop in Nova Scotia?

Freak Lunchbox on Barrington.  It’s the only place in the city to purchase a Curly Wurly, a rubber chicken or some Squirrel Underpants (and who doesn’t need that)?

Where in Nova Scotia would we stand to see your favourite view?

The view from the River John bridge - for its spectacular sunsets.

Name 3 things we’ve gotta do when we visit  Nova Scotia:

1. The beaches around River John are some of the best you’ll find anywhere.  The whole Northumberland shoreline is amazing.

2. Every September, the Atlantic Film Festival shows great films and throws the best parties in Halifax. It’s a can’t-miss event.

3. One that’s new to me is the “Not Since Moses” run at Sand Point. It takes place in August and it’s a 10k race run on the bottom of the Bay of Fundy while the tide is out. I hear it’s a blast and hope to try it myself this summer.

What makes Nova Scotia such a special place on earth for you?

Nova Scotia is all about the people.  Full of friendly, hardy folk - with great senses of humor. I wouldn’t trade living here for anything.
