Updated: December 5, 2012

Dave Gunning’s Penny Drive raises $6,287.66 for the IWK Health Centre in Halifax

(Halifax, NS) – With the release of his tenth album "No More Pennies" in September, Dave Gunning embarked on a Penny Drive, collecting pennies at his Atlantic Canadian performances throughout the fall, raising $6,287.66 in support of the IWK Health Centre in Halifax.

Dave GunningTo support the effort, the Scotia Bank in New Glasgow offered to roll the pennies and match the funds up to $5,000.

"Thanks so much to Karen MacNeil and everyone at the Scotia Bank at the West Side Shopping Centre in New Glasgow,” said Gunning yesterday at the cheque presentation at the Scotia Bank in New Glasgow. “Their kind offer to roll up all the pennies and then match the donation was incredible. I would not have been able to do this without them. Thanks also to all of the supporters who stood up for this cause and brought pennies to my shows throughout Atlantic Canada and beyond.  What started out scary in the beginning with the Canadian Mint coming after me ended up as a positive story."

Gunning has seven more Maritime performance leading up to Christmas. They include:

December 7  Chester, NS - Chester Playhouse
December 8  Margaretsville, NS - Evergreen Theatre
December 14  Hunter River, PE – Harmony House Theatre
December 15  Truro, NS - Marigold Cultural Centre
December 17  Pictou, NS - Marigold Cultural Centre
December 21 & 22  Antigonish, NS - Dragonfly Cafe

At each Atlantic Canadian performance this Fall, Gunning will be accepting penny donations.

“Now with the recent happy ending to the penny copyright issue thanks to the Royal Canadian Mint, I’ve decided to continue the ‘Penny Drive’ as a fundraiser for the IWK. Many generous folks have offered their encouragement and support and I want to put it towards a great cause,” said Gunning. “The Scotia Bank in New Glasgow has generously offered to roll all of the pennies and ‘Match The Funds’ up to $5,000. This cause is worthy of every penny so bring your coins to my live shows or drop them off at the Scotiabank Westside Shopping Centre in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.”
