REPUBLIC OF DOYLE Set for Production of Season 4
Posted: June 21, 2012
It's the first full day of summer and there is jubilation here at Sea and be Scene – for not only is the weather heating up, but things are gearing up over in St.John's, NL for production on Season 4 of REPUBLIC OF DOYLE.
I received confirmation from the man himself via @allanhawco - production is set to begin the first week of July – yippeee!
So I thought now is as good a time as any to do a bit of a roll call on our beloved R of D cast. Just because the show's been on hiatus doesn't mean they've been hangin' at the Duke all winter... although come to think of it I did run into Mark O'Brien there (video).... hmmm
So okay, let's start there...with Mark O'Brien (Des Courtney)... (spoiler alert)
When last we saw him on-screen he'd been shot and his eyes had developed that glazed over look (more so than normal). Judging by Jake's face and Leslie's reaction to the call – I'd say young Des is in for a time of it (at any rate we've got a candle lit)
Off-screen Mark has been busy! Alluding to it during our interview, a cryptic tweet from an undisclosed set and a few other tidbits of info (post) have led me to discover he's been working on another movie. I'm still waiting for all the details there so stand by. As for his movie KATHY, it took home the The William F. White Award for Best Comedy at the 2012 Lakeshorts International Film Festival and will screen this Saturday night (06/22/12) as part of the closing night gala for the Nickel Independent Film Festival in St.John's and Mark will be there! He'll also take to the stage Friday night at the St.John's Comedy Festival along side Mike Bullard, Cathy Jones and many others. Oh and then there's BEATDOWN in which he co-stars along side...
The amazing Marthe Bernard (Tinny Doyle)
Yes she just had a birthday last week – but that's not her only reason to celebrate. Her movie BEATDOWN has been screening at festivals all over North America and the reviews have been phenomenal. Marthe along with her co-star Rob Wells and director Deanne Foley have all been nominated for Canadian Comedy Awards – AWESOME! The movie screens tomorrow (06/22/12) in Toronto at The Female Eye Film Festival. Marthe also took to the stage during her break appearing in "Kingdom" with her fab real life dad Andy Jones at St.John's LSPU Hall – and again... SMASH reviews!
As for what's in store for Tinny in Season 4... I can say that an @allanhawco RT of one of my tweets regarding Paul Gross leads me to believe we'll be seeing a return of her TV 'dad' Kevin Crocker so stay tuned for some of that bad dude.
While we're on the subject of 'dads' I've gotta tell you - one of the most 'searched questions' that brings folks to SABS where REPUBLIC OF DOYLE is concerned is whether or not Sean McGinley will return to play Jake's father Malachy.
Now I could see the speculation with the way things ended in Season 2, but I don't see where there's any doubt he'll be back following last season's finale... unless there's something you've heard?!
If you do have some scoop there please let me know
.
We know Rose Doyle will be back – since actress Lynda Boyd @LyndaBoyd2 tweeted how much she's looking forward to returning and to again rowing in this year's Royal St.John's Regatta.

.
While Boyd resides in Burnaby, BC – she was in St.John's over the winter working with journalist Tara Bradbury on the wonderful Warm Hearts campaign for to benefit the Irish Kirby House (post)
Now as we post, actress Krystin Pellerin (Leslie Bennett) is winding down the second of two plays with Soul Pepper Theatre this season. Sea and be Scene is lucky enough to be the ONLY source for The Pellerin Post wherein Krystin journals on her time on the stage.
“You Can't Take It With You” closes tonight (06/21/12) and she'll be filing her final Pellerin Post of the season shortly – stay tuned and stay tuned for romantic tensions to ensue in Season 4. I still can't help but remember my chat with Mr. Hawco following the “Two Jakes and a Baby” episode (video). There was a whole lotta meaning in that dream...but what??!!!
And that leads us to Jake Doyle himself. As I've discovered through my many chats with the man -he's always busy with the show but Series Co-Creator, Executive Producer, Head Writer, Showrunner and star Allan Hawco – took a much deserved break from his crazy schedule this spring... traveling to Ireland with his family. He kindly tweeted about the journey as he went and judging by the twitter response to his posted pics – it meant a lot to us fans.
Rest assured that brief reprieve has once again given way to writing scripts, pre-production details and a million other aspects of getting the fourth Season underway and...
we love you for it Mr. Hawco! SABS
