The first round of auditions on the national search for the next Dorothy is winding down – with the final stop set for today (06/18/12) in Toronto.
One lady who's already secured her spot is Gander, NL's own Jody Lear who scored her 'Ticket to Oz' (and plane ticket to TO) through the on-line auditions. These video auditions made it possible for anyone in Canada to be seen without having to be at one of the regional auditions in person.
Hundreds entered, 10 finalists were chosen and from there anyone could vote for their favourite. In the end it was Jody who “captured the hearts and votes of people across Canada”. Now she'll be among the top 100 callbacks from all across the nation vying for the coveted role of Dorothy in the Andrew Lloyd Webber - Tim Rice production of WIZARD OF OZ The Musical when it opens at Toronto's Ed Mirvish Theatre.
All of this lead up to the lead being chosen will be documented and broadcast as part of CBC's fall reality series Over the Rainbow (post).
We'll look forward to seeing Jody on the show and cheering her on as she begins this great adventure.
In the meantime you can catch Ms. Lear on stage with the talented folks at Beyond the Overpass Theatre Company. She's performing in “The Marvelous Wonderettes” by Roger Bean until July 7th and other productions throughout the summer.
Congrats Jody Lear – we're right proud of ya! SABS
