Alexandra Groot Koerkamp – At Home Here in Nova Scotia
Occupation: Beach Captain/Lifeguard at Martinique Beach
Place of Birth: Halifax, NS
Currently Resides: Eastern Passage, NS
Where’s your favourite place in Nova Scotia to grab a coffee?
Definitely Two If By Sea I love their coffee and their butter croissants - YUM! Just writing this makes me want one! If you have never been, you should definitely go!
Where’s your favourite place in Nova Scotia to grab a pint?
Depends what I want to do - if I want to have a chill evening with some close friends, Economy Shoe Shop out on the patio with a big plate of nachos and guacamole is always a must or for a hearty meal and a pint I'd get that at The Henry House.
Where’s your favourite place to shop in Nova Scotia?
Haha.. When I am not broke, I love to shop at Biscuit – they have adorable clothing or Kannon Beach where I buy all of my surf gear, apparel and accessories! Kannon also carries my favorite line of jewelry called, Bridget Turner’s Jewelry where every piece is inspired by the sea.
Where in Nova Scotia would we stand to see your favourite view?
It might be difficult for you to stand there but you could definitely sit there. My favourite view in Nova Scotia is from my surfboard. Being in the water gives you a complete perspective of our beautiful and rugged coastline. It is breathtaking.
.
Name 3 things we’ve gotta do when we visit Nova Scotia:
1. Learn to surf or at least spend a day exploring the coastline
2. Lunenburg fishery museum – its part of our heritage and there are some great little cafes and restaurants in the area not to mention the beautiful scenery
3. McNabs Island –hike around!
What makes Nova Scotia such a special place on earth for you?
This is my home. I have travelled to many places, all of which I loved. Not to mention the warmer water, but there is something about this place that keeps bringing me back.

SABS Note of Noteworthiness
Thousands have entered and we're thrilled to tell ya Alexandra has made it to the Top 25 finalists in the International Roxy Girl Contest.
A very cool achievement in a competition that recognizes girls who... “are kind-hearted, generous, and love to have fun. Who dream big and are always up for a challenge and down for a good adventure”.
