Smiling Jack on the IceCaps – Report #33 PLAYOFFS

The St. John's IceCaps find themselves down 2-0 in their Eastern Conference Final with the Norfolk Admirals.

The Admirals showed why they won 28 straight regular season games with a 6 – 1 victory in game 1 in Norfolk. Game 2 was much closer with the IceCaps playing better but still coming up on the wrong end of a 3 -1 score.

On Thursday May 17 the IceCaps trailed 1-0 after 1 period but surrendered three second period goals as the Admirals put the game out of reach. It was a rare off night for Eddie Pasquale who allowed four goals on 21 shots. Zack Redmond scored the lone St. John's goal.

“We didn't bring our best game obviously” Head Coach Keith McCambridge said following the game. “I thought they picked up the pace of the game and executed better than us and you saw the result in the score.”

On Saturday May 19 the IceCaps lost 3 – 1, again at Scope Arena in Norfolk. Eddie Pasquale bounced back to stop 35 out of 37 shots and kept the IceCaps in the game until the final minute. John Albert scored the St. John's goal. The game didn't start well for St John's as Norfolk scored just 51 seconds into the game. This time however the IceCaps played much better and showed they are not going to lie down and 'play dead'.

Coach McCambridge said “We knew our opponent was going to be strong and they're all that. Our game was at a better level compared to Game 1. That was more of a type of game we thought we'd be facing; obviously not the result we wanted. We expect to have to battle for every game and every inch and we expect that for Game 3."

The series shifts to Mile One Centre tonight (05/21/12) and you can be sure the IceCaps will be fired up, come out flying and use their best efforts to jump into the lead and secure their first victory.

Game 4 will be played at Mile One Centre on Tuesday May 22 and Game 5 (which will be necessary) will be played on Saturday May 26. Games 6 and game 7 will see the series return to Norfolk.
