ARE YOU THE NEXT DOROTHY?

Posted: May 16, 2012

Here's your chance to go OVER THE RAINBOW...

This summer CBC will go coast to coast with the hopes of discovering the next DOROTHY.

It's all part of the new CBC reality/talent series that centres on the search to fill the lead in the Andrew Lloyd Webber - Tim Rice production of WIZARD OF OZ The Musical when it opens at Toronto's Ed Mirvish Theatre.

The program hosted by Daryn Jones will begin shooting June 1st – documenting all the trials and tribulations of the cross Canada tryouts through to the top 100 Toronto call backs... to the ultimate crowning or 'ruby shoeing' in this case – of the next Dorothy.

Here's audition schedule....

Vancouver - June 1st & 2nd - The Westin Grand Vancouver

Calgary - June 3rd - Sheraton Suites

Winnipeg - June 4th - Fairmont

Montreal - June 9th - The Sheraton Centre

*Halifax - June 10th - Westin Nova Scotia*

Toronto - June 18th - Glenn Gould Studio, CBC

In the event that you can't make it to one of those – an on-line audition for the show is available from now until June 6th. click here for details

The best entries will be shortlisted on Tuesday June 12 at which point the voting is open to Canadians who will decide which of the video submissions should be invited to the Toronto call back.

I'm getting nervous just posting this story....and I'm not even auditioning. Alright then...

I've posted the movie version of the song above – for your reference... but remember you're auditioning for a stage production so you'll need to be able to act and dance as well.

Just click on the pic of Sir Andrew Lloyd Weber to the right - that'll take you to a video where he'll explain just what they'll be looking for in a Dorothy.

Break a leg ladies!

We'll be following the auditions closely and of course banking on the winner to be from Canada's East Coast.

JUDY GARLAND as Dorothy with Toto WIZARD OF OZOh and they'll also be casting for her little dog too!!!

Take your "Toto"...and I guess break a paw?! 😉

  1. Once again coast to coast is used incorrectly! I don't see any audition dates listed for NL so it is not coast to coast!

  2. Hey Michelle - CBC considers it coast to coast because of the YouTube element of the show. Ladies from all across the country will have a chance to audition... it's too bad they weren't taking the live auditions to each province. Just having one spot for all 4 Atlantic Provinces is very limiting. As you know this site celebrates ALL 4 Atlantic Provinces so I'm keenly aware of Newfoundland & Labrador and if I slip up you can be sure my Mom who was born and resides reminds me 🙂 thanks for your note - sb

  3. I agree with Michelle coast to Coast means including NL. Every location is with in driving distance except NL. How many will spend $400.00 on spec. That is just the airfare, then add in the hotel and other cost. How difficult would it have been to set up an audition in St. John's.

I think it time NL is a full partner of Canada and not just a second thought. Just imagine the cuts to CBC if Republic of Doyle wasn't bringing in millions of dollars in advertising revenue.

    Do the the right thing.

  4. I have been trying to get more information but can't seem to find out anything on the cbc website. Age requirements? where to send online auditions?
    Thanks!
