Smiling Jack on the IceCaps Report #29 PLAYOFFS

The playoffs are underway and the IceCaps return to Mile One Centre in a good position. The best of 5 series is tied 1-1 and the remainder of the series will be played in St. John's.

On Friday April 20 the IceCaps opened with a 3-2 victory over the Syracuse Crunch as Jason King, Corner Brook NL scored with 1:22 remaining in the third period.

It was a tight checking game and as Head Coach Keith McCambridge stated after the win... “Every inch of the ice you have to fight for out there”.

Eddie Pasquale was outstanding in the St. John's goal.

On Saturday April 21, the Crunch evened the series with a 4-3 victory. The Crunch scored at 12:25 of the final period to secure the victory.

Aaron Gagnon scored 2 goals to lead the IceCaps.

Patrice Cormier, Moncton, NB also scored for St.John's.

Games 3 & 4 will be played at Mile One Centre on Wednesday April 25 and Friday April 27. Game 5, if necessary, will also go at Mile One Centre on Saturday April 28.

With the last change, it appears that Coach McCambridge has his forward lines set up so that he can take full advantage of this. He has 2 high powered scoring lines in Machacek, Cormier and Trotter and King, Gagnon and Maxwell. He has an excellent checking line in Albert, Murray and Sawada and a good third line in Klingberg, Rosa and either Macenauer or Clark.

McCambridge can match lines as he sees fit. If he wants to put the checking line out against the Palmieri line he can do so or he can match top lines.
