In Memory of the SS Atlantic - Sandy Cove Rd, Terrence Bay

Before the RMS Titanic disaster,  White Star Line's SS Atlantic came crashing on the rocks near Terence Bay, Nova Scotia. Local residents will remember the fishermen who came to the rescue of ship passenger. Join in on the tribute with musical entertainment, a chowder supper, bake sale and other family activities. Titanic: The Untold Story - Alderney Landing, Dartmouth

This stage play written and directed by Anthony Sherwood focuses on two characters of African descent: Joseph Philippe Laroche, whose family sailed on the Titanic, and Jack Johnson, a heavyweight boxing champion who was reportedly refused passage on the ship. Exploring the Wreck of the Titanic

Join marine geologist Steve Blasco as he takes you on an eerie tour of the wreck of the Titanic descending to water depths of 3,800 metres in the North Atlantic. (Halifax, NS) Students from Citadel High School will reprise one of Broadway's most celebrated musicals when How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying takes to the Spatz Theatre. With the style and aplomb of 1950’s New York office-life on a Mad Men-fuelled pop-culture high, theatregoers seeking to hum along to rising stars and steno pools should get their tickets now.
Directed and choreographed by Mary Lou Martin, with musical direction by Frances Farrell, Citadel’s production of the 1961-hit features Grade 12 Jack Bennet as J. Pierrepont Finch, the window-washer-cum-company-man; grade 11 Riley Moffat as boss J.B. Biggley; grade 10 Siddath Rankaduwa as Bud Frump, the bosses nepotistic nephew; and grade 12 Margot Kocay as Rosemary Pilkington, the spouse-seeking secretary.  A supporting cast of 90 students from grades 10, 11 and 12 bring the secrets of success, pit-falls and ambition of post-war American corporate culture to life with style, humour and classic songs Company Way, How to Succeed, Brotherhood of Man and more.

How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying runs April 19-21 at 8:00 PM.  Tickets are available from Citadel High’s administration office (491-4444) Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM and from the Citadel Community Centre (490-3895)

Songs from the Heart in Musquodoboit Harbour

The Aeolian Singers will present Songs from the Heart, an evening of relaxing and beautiful music on Saturday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m. at First United Church in Musquodoboit Harbour. The Aeolians are champions of music for women, and over the years, they’ve commissioned many new works for the choir by a diverse range of Canadian composers, including music by singer/songwriters like Susan Crowe, Connie Kaldor and Raylene Rankin. They’ve shared the stage with a who’s who of musicians in their innovative and moving programs.  They have made three recordings, including the moving breast cancer oratorio, Where I Live, and performed with Symphony Nova Scotia and throughout Atlantic Canada, the U.K. and Europe.  The choir is currently under the direction of Janet Gaskin.  The Aeolians are accompanied by Hannah Parks.
