Gander, NL born director Brad Peyton is signed direct JOURNEY 3.
After a four week worldwide box office gross of $270 million for Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, it comes as no surprise New Line is anxious to continue the franchise – securing Peyton along with writers Brian Gunn and Mark Gunn.
Now on the fast track to be completed by 2014 – JOURNEY 3 will be in 3D and based on the Jules Verne book “From the Earth to the Moon”.
Peyton already has a game plan “This one's going to be a lot bigger. We're going to go to a completely different world. It's just going to be a bigger experience, and we're going to grow the mythology. Journey 2 was about rebooting a franchise; now it's about making the seminal work in the franchise."
As of now – no cast has been announced, but the studio has confirmed the characters of Sean and Hank are “absolutely” returning in the next film. You can be sure New Line will be looking to lock in Josh Hutcherson who has starred as Sean in both movies – and who also stars as Peeta Mellark in the much anticipated THE HUNGER GAMES opening March 23/12. Fair to say his asking price will be a smidge higher.
And it’s a pretty safe bet they’d like to sign up Dwayne Johnson who played Hank in Journey 2.
No word on the fate of the other characters played by Vanessa Hudgens, Luis Guzman and Oscar winner Michael Caine… but we’ll be sure to keep you posted on that front.
In the meantime – great congrats to Mr. Peyton – and much success as your “Journey” continues! SABS
