The countdown is most decidedly on to what has become the most anticipated movie of 2012 - THE HUNGER GAMES. Matter of fact it's so 'ON' that I've even embedded one of those 'countdown to the release' clock thingys ...you'll see it at the bottom of this post. (you can turn the 'crackling fire sound' off if it's bugging you.)
New Brunswick's own Donald Sutherland plays President Snow in a movie that stars Oscar nominated actress Jennifer Lawrence (Winter's Bone) and Josh Hutcherson (Journey 2: The Mysterious Island).
As part of the monster marketing plan for the blockbuster - the studio capitalized on Valentine's Day sending a floral greeting to media outlets today.
The card came complete with the Capitol seal and an reminder of the March 23, 2012 release date. (click on pic to enlarge)
THE HUNGER GAMES is an adapted screenplay based on the first part of a Trilogy series of books by author Suzanne Collins - 'Catching Fire' and 'Mockingjay' are the other two.
If you've not read the best seller - you can find a plot summary for the movie at the bottom of this post.
Sutherland who attended his co-star Josh Hutcherson's big Journey 2 premiere early this month...will have a few of his own premieres this year.
In addition to THE HUNGER GAMES - Sutherland stars as Pop in DAWN RIDER alongside Christian Slater (True Romance) and Nova Scotia's own George Canyon - that's set for an August 7th release.
Sutherland has another film with Slater titled SOFIA also due out later this year.
And it has been confirmed the Saint John, NB star will team up with Irish actor Brendan Gleeson (The Guard) for the movie THE McLEAN BOYS which will tell the real-life story of Canadian outlaws who nearly incited a native uprising in 1879 British Columbia.
Listed as being in the "script" stages of production this movie has been slated for a 2013 release.
Never a dull moment for the 76 year old Mr. Sutherland - no doubt there will be more projects added and we sure do like it that way! SABS
SABS EXTRA - DID YOU KNOW???
Next month will mark the 42nd Anniversary of M*A*S*H. One of Sutherland's earliest hits, it was released in March of 1970 and won an Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay. DID YOU KNOW... Although set on the front lines of the Korean War, the only gunshots heard throughout the movie are from the referee's pistol during the inter-camp football game.

The Hunger Games - In a not-too-distant future, North America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcast throughout Panem. The 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss' young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district's female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart Peeta, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives. Source Imdb.com link
