Republic of Doyle Season 3

Team those elements up with a stellar cast portraying colourful characters led by fallible hero that every guy would love to grab a beer with and every girl would love to just plain grab  - well that’s a combo ya simply can’t beat.  And for three seasons now the audience that loves the show keeps on growing.

Love & Savagery movie posterThat’s why…as we wrap up LOVE month here on Sea and be Scene… I feel it only right to feature a film fans of R of D just have to see... Love & Savagery.

Yes, it is most decidedly a romantic drama, but it has a splash of smiles here and there, and for sure a bunch of punches, breath taking scenery and most importantly...

it stars Allan Hawco!!!

Set in 1969, Michael (Hawco) a geologist from Newfoundland travels to a small Irish village and falls in love with a local girl named Cathleen, who until Michael’s arrival was destined for the convent.

The film is quiet and moving, passionate and heartbreaking… I just loved it!

I asked the movie’s star what he loved about making it and this was Allan’s reply…

Love & Savagery, it was the trip of a life time for me. To connect with Ireland, to spend that kind of time out there on the west coast -- with the Irish people. It touched my heart in the best kind of way. I'll always be grateful for that film for so many reasons, not the least of them -- discovering my love of Geology!” Allan Hawco

Allan Hawco and Sean Panting in "Love & Savagery" 2009For the record the movie begins and ends in St. John’s, NL so like Doyle you’ll see that beautiful part of the world, as well as Jake’s buddy and lawyer Walter - only in this movie it’s Michael’s pal Wilfred that Sean Panting plays… and as a bonus you’ll even get to hear him sing…brilliant!

  1. Love and Savagery is one of the most beautiful films I've watched. The scenery, the love story, the culture - it truly has everything, including stellar acting by all. The movie is a masterpiece start to finish and one that Allan should be extremely proud of.
