There are actors…and then there are ACTORS.
The difference? Well…when you watch a performance and see only the character and none of the performer…that’s an ACTOR...that's Shawn Doyle.
Have a look a the long list of roles on his resume…from a serial killing cop in Frequency, to the troubled younger brother of a polygamist in Big Love, to the traumatized but talented chess-playing crime-solving Russian Arkady Balagan in Endgame, to his most recent portrayal of Canada’s first Prime Minister in John A.: Birth of a Country – a role that has earned him an ACTRA nomination for Outstanding Male Performance of the Year -all so varied and so very greatly portrayed.
No argument - I am a fan, so it’s fair to say when we met up at the lovely Trattoria Della Nonna in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia - I was more than excited (thus my gushy non-stop smile during the interview.)
He was in town filming his latest feature The Disappeared so that was topic number one but there was much to discuss...like perfecting accents, the riggers of dory rowing, returning to his homeland of Newfoundland & Labrador and on we talked.
Speaking of the homeland…be sure to catch Shawn when he reprises his role as the wrongly accused son of a murderer, Carl Maher on Republic of Doyle. That episode #305 “Dead Man Talking” is set to air Wednesday, February 8, 2012.
No release date is set as yet for The Disappeared but we’ll keep you posted.
Thanks so much for making the time Mr. Doyle – you’re some sweet! We'll be watching for your next great project...
