Smiling Jack on the IceCaps Report #10

Posted: December 5, 2011

More bad news and good news for the IceCaps.

Riely Holzapfel Centre #21The bad news is that Riley Holzapfel, a top line forward suffered a broken orbital bone and is out of Carl Klingbergaction for approximately 3 weeks.

Additionally, the team's second leading scorer, ............... Carl Klingberg has been recalled by the parent, Winnipeg Jets.

Eric O'Dell & Shane WiebeThe good news is that Eric O'Dell and Shane Wiebe were brought into the lineup and the IceCaps didn't miss a beat, winning 2 games on the road in Ontario.

St. John's continues to lead the Atlantic Division of the Eastern Conference by 3 points and is tied for 2nd in the 30 team American Hockey League.

David Aebischer G #1 and Specer Machacek #10On Friday Dec. 2 with David Aebischer recording the shutout, the IceCaps defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs 4 – 0 at Copps Coliseum. Spencer Machacek scored 2 goals while Eric O'Dell had a goal and Shane Wiebe an assist.

On Sunday Dec 4th the IceCaps gained a measure of revenge by defeating the Toronto Marlies 4 – 2 at Ricoh Coliseum.

Marco Rosa Centre #19 & Jason King #5Marco Rosa scored once and had 2 assists to lead the IceCaps. Jason King, Corner Brook NL scored his team leading ninth goal.

Top - Darryl Boyce PEI Bottom - Patrice Cormier NBDarrel Boyce, Summerside, PEI scored for the Marlies.

Pleased to report that Patrice Cormier, Moncton NB, who sat out the last period of the November 26th game due to a hard hit, returned to the lineup Friday and played his usual robust style in both games.

The IceCaps defence continues to play outstanding hockey. Three of their top defencemen, based on pre-season ratings, are now playing with the Jets, but there has been no fall off in performance.

top L - R Travis Ramsay Zack Redmond bottom L - R Paul Postma Jason DeSantisWorthy of mention is the outstanding play of veteran Travis Ramsay, Zack Redmond (who I consider to be a real NHL prospect), Paul Postma (a late cut by the Jets) and Jason DeSantis (who is especially effective on the power play). These four are logging extra ice time and seem to be thriving on it.

The IceCaps have a busy week coming up with games at Mile One Centre against Syracuse Crunch on Tuesday December 6th and Wednesday December 7th and against Worcester Sharks on Friday December 9th and Sunday November 11th.

Carl Klingburg – Called up to the Winnipeg Jets Mike Montgomery – Released from his Professional Tryout Contract
